So, for Christmas, I got a 360 for Christmas, and need some recommendations. So far, I have the Orange Box, and on the way are Mass Effect 1 & 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed 1, Oblivion, and Tales of Vesperia. Because I'm new to the 360, (and don't have a PS3, Wii, or noteworthy computer), what other games are quintessential for me got get? Any recommendations at all will be appreciated, thanks.

Haha, true. I'm into a variety of things. Shooters, RPGs, platformers, and some horror games, as long as it's subtle and not just gooey blood baths.

Well since you have Assassins Creed 1 you should get the other ones as well.

Halo: Reach because it's a 360 exclusive
GOW & GOW 2 for the same reason
Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood, they're a lot better than AC 1
CoD Black Ops, CoD 4
You also need to get Mass Effect as soon as possible (you said they're on the way, but get those first)
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway was pretty fun

There's more, but I can't really remember them.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot about this... Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the Vietnam expansion.

Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood, halo 3, ODST and Reach, COD Modern Warfare and any of the Rockbands. Those should last you a while...

In that case, forget Gear of War. You can shove a chainsaw up someone's ass and cut him in half. Your screen becomes covered in blood.

Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood.
If you like shooters, probably Halo: Reach and CoD: Black Ops.
I'd also recommend Red Dead Redemption, which is a simply fantastic western game. The gameplay isn't great, but everything else is great.
I'd also recommend Shadow Complex, Castle Crashers, and Shank, which are all on the arcade.

I'm fine with bloody shooters, and I've played Gears before. It's not bad. What I meant was no horror games that only rely on gore. If I play a horror game, it needs to be more psychological than viceral.

crackdown 1 or 2 are nice titlles, they have action, free roaming, multiplayer, stat building and all of the different aspects actually create at least a decent game on thier own, I have no clue what you're into, but whatever it is I can garantee that if you get it used it will be worth the cash.

you've got a pretty decent spread there to be honest, i've never played tales of vesperia but the rest of them are very good games. if your into fps multiplayer then either call of duty or halo (or both i suppose) are good choices, if you like oblivion then fallout 3/ new vegas are pretty good and use a similar sort of system with a few tweaks (some for better some for worse. if your into racing games then DIRT 2 is worth a look or forza 2/3 if your more a track racing kind of guy, oh and read dead redemption is pretty good especially if you fork out for the undead nightmare add on.

EDIT: i've also heard good things about deadly premonition but i've not got around to playing it yet.

Aye, as stated above it would be nice to get some of your favorite genres, but based on what you have I'd say you might like Assassins Creed II(much better than the first game), Borderlands and The Saboteur.

Borderlands isn't heavy on story, if that's your thing, but it has a lot of humor and I had a good time playing it. The DLC Island of Dr.Ned and Secret Armory adds a lot to the game time and now I believe there are some Game of the year edition pack with all DLC, so that might be awesomely worth to get.

The Saboteur is kind of like GTA/Assassins Creed during WWII in France.

I do notice a lack of any of the big shooters on your list. Personally speaking, I like Halo: Reach, but there are those who strongly prefer Modern Warfare 2. It's not my cup of tea, but hey, to each their own, right? If you're playing offline these might not be worth your time, but if you've got xbox live (and you should, personally speaking, I think it's the best part of having an xbox) then these games have some of the core xbox experiences.

The Fallout games are good, if you like Oblivion they've got a fair amount in common in as far as what makes the gameplay fun (though personally speaking I still like Oblivion better).

Finally, if you've got xbox live and some friends who want to play it with you, or someone at home who'll want to play local with you, Borderlands is a lot of fun. I think that it'd kind of suck if you were playing it by yourself, but when you've got a couple of your friends, and you're running around having a good time in the game, well, it's worth it.

Also, if you get xbox live, you can add a Netflix subscription on top of it and stream stuff through your TV, I ultimately canceled my cable because of this, and Netflix sees more use than anything else on my xbox, so even though it's not a game, I'll suggest that too.

I will say, that so far your chocies are pretty good. Tales of vesperia is going to take 100's of hours of your life, if you like that type of game...

Damn you have a lot of games, but I think you're lacking in the multiplayer shooter department. So, I'd recommend Black Ops or BF: Bad Company 2. You should also get Bioshock as well.
