I do notice a lack of any of the big shooters on your list.
The reason behind that is because I like more sophisticated shooters, like the Half-Life games.

Fable II and III.
You could give Alpha Protocol a try as well
If you want horror get Condemned, the first one, it's atmospheric and pretty terrifying.

More sophisticated as in it taking actual skill? If that's the case, than you'll like Bad Company 2.

Genres, we need genres, or esle you might end up with sugestions for sex games...
Haha, true. I'm into a variety of things. Shooters, RPGs, platformers, and some horror games, as long as it's subtle and not just gooey blood baths.
Modern warfare 2.
Thats not blood. It's jam, its like counterstrike for kids...

If you find Assassins Creed 1 boring and repetitive (like I did) don't worry, because No. 2 (my favourite of the series) and Brotherhood are waaaaay better. There's absolutely know point in getting both though unless you love the franchise that much.

Gears of War!

Also; if you like FPS campaign, pick up call of duty 4 (since it's cheap and one of you're friends might have it); but if it's FPS multiplayer you want try CoD: Black Ops.

Those are just off the top of my head. You've got a decent selection already, but try no to dump too much time into Oblivion.

Red Dead Redemption is compulsory. I personally like Fable 2 since it looks good, and has a lot to do outside of the main story. Left 4 Dead/L4D2 is fairly good if you have a friend or two to play it with.

Oh, I see, you want a game you can play while you sip a nice pinot noir? Don't get me wrong here, I'm a studio art major, I understand the sentiment related to trying to find things with greater depth, and I used to say stuff like that all the time. Then I gave Halo a try, I had a lot of fun playing it with my friends, and I realized that it doesn't really matter what game I'm playing, I'm not going to look like a classy sophisticate with an xbox controller in my hands. And I'm glad that I took the opportunity to get over myself because there's more than enough stress, shit, detachment, and other general-horribleness in my life, forgetting it all for a while, and enjoying a round of Halo with my friends is one of the few pleasures I'm left with between crippling loneliness and withdrawal symptoms.

What I'm saying is that I would still suggest giving Halo: Reach a try, you might find that when you see it not for what you've decided it is, but for what it is (at least to the extent that any human can do such a superhuman thing) that you enjoy it. And you might not. But these things didn't catch on for no reason, they're popular because, ugly as it can be at times, they speak to fundamental elements of the human experience.

If you like shooters and horror games I'd go with Metro 2033. Kinda surprised no ones mentioned it yet.

Ok, here's my recommendation list so far. Obviously, rent first if you can just to make sure you like it beforehand. :p

Assassin's Creed 2
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Red Dead Redemption
Fable III
Dragon Age Origins
CoD: Modern Warfare
Left 4 Dead (if you have buddies to play with online or locally since this game is more fun to play when you have someone with you)
The F.E.A.R games
Bioshock

So, yeah...That's my list. A number of these are available for the PS3 and PC as well, but they're still good games and I just grabbed examples from my own 360 collection.

Aye, as stated above it would be nice to get some of your favorite genres, but based on what you have I'd say you might like Assassins Creed II(much better than the first game), Borderlands and The Saboteur.

The Saboteur is kind of like GTA/Assassins Creed during WWII in France.
Mixed in with some Mercenaries/Just Cause 2 mayhem. Cool story, too. I approve of this message.
Indeed! In spite of people seeming to have a problem with Devlins accent I found The Saboteur to be one of my favorite games for my PS3. Placing dynamite on structures have never felt so satisfying. <3

Okay, I like what you wrote, and this line in particular was good, and don't get me wrong, I've played Halo and Gears of War and CoD at friends' houses before and had fun. It's not that I don't enjoy games like that, but it's a matter of preference. Give me Halo Reach or Half-Life 1 and tell me I can only play one of them for the rest of my life, and I'm gonna pick Half-Life 1, despite it's age. I enjoy mindless thrills as much as the next guy, but given the choice, and having limited spending money, I'm going to go for something with more depth.

I recommend Res 5 or Hawx if you can get them for cheap. They aren't the best games but they are a good play through. Also Res 5 is not really scary or gory it is an action game. I'd say Dead Space but you don't want gory horrors(You kill enemies by dismemberment). Armoured Core 4 or AC:For Answer(I think that is subtitle) is good if you like mech games. Soul Caliber 4, Dead or Alive 4 and Super Street Fighter 4 are good fighting games haven't played Tekken 6 yet. By the way it must be Super Street Fighter 4 as plain old SF4 has less characters and no special events like beating the crap outta a car. Ninja Gaiden 2 is good but quite punishing. If you don't mind having a different main charcter(which is something I have no problem with) Devil May Cry 4 is a great whatever kinda game it is. If you want and uber casual and watered down version of original Prince of Persia games the remake on the 360 where he has the scarf is good. Although if you want actual combat/any sort of challenge avoid it like the black death. As well if you can get Army of 2 cheap and like Gears of War style play get it or the sequel too.

Any other games I would recommend are already mentioned

No one has mentioned Limbo yet, best game on XBLA (that is if you're going to get live, a lot of the games mentioned here are great for the multiplayer components).

Really, if I were you, I'd forgo the large collection of games in favor of a Live subscription and a few long-lasting titles (Mass Effect, Halo, COD and L4D are what I fire up my Xbox for nowadays).
