I bought a 60gb hard drive and have installed 4 games.

It's telling me that 29 gigs have been used and 21 are free.

Has anyone else had this happen or heard of it? Am I missing something or is there some reason the other ten are not registering or something that might be taking up space?

*MAGIC*

It's probably a series of other crap that is taking up space. Dashboard, backgrounds, Demos. ETC.... yadda yadda yadda

The OS, I'd assume. And there are pre-installed demos, themes etc

Pardon my ignorance but what is an OS?

It's not themes or demos, I deleted everything except my save files and games.

The operating system - the whole thing, the program that the Xbox itself runs on. Without it, it would be a blank screen. I'm not really sure I've done the best job of describing it, but I hope you know what I mean!

That would almost make sense except for one small problem. I bought the core with a 20 gb and had the 13 free. A year later I switched the HDD to an arcade and still never got those 7gb back. I deleted all the preloaded crap that came with it. So those 7 missing gbs have nothing to do with running the console.

Demos and videos take up space, too. What I really want to know is why I bought a Pro WEEKS BEFORE THEY UPGRADED THE HARD DRIVE TO 60GB

Ah I get ya.

Could that really take up 10 gigs?

I deleted all demos, arcade stuff and movies and there is still almost 10 gb not accounted for.

OK so on a 20GB hard drive. The OS takes up 7-8GB

But on a 60GB hard drive. The OS takes up 20GB?

It's a clever sales ploy from Microsoft. Have you paying for a 60gb and getting only 50gb. Good buissness model, as most people don't care.

Yeah, the hard drive has it's own operating system that makes it compatible with the 360 itself. No matter how much you delete, you won't ever get those full 60gb. It's kind of how like it is in computer hard drives.

The gamestake up a lot of space. If you delete them it will probably clear up like 20 something gigs!

Wow, that kinda sucks.

Thanks for the info though, good to know I don't have a dud on my hands.

I have a 20 gig, and I can only have one game at a time on it, so I usually don't bother. I've only ever had 15 GB available on the harddrive, what with OS and all.

Here's an idea. Xbox is crap and nothing good will ever come of it. It has good games though and that is sad that they are on such a terrible system. RRoD and error 74. Hope that helps♥.
