It's pretty straightforward if you want RPGs, xbox 360 has the greatest number of them as well as the best ones.

Wii if you like Metroid, Smash Bros, Okami, Mario Kart/Mario Galaxy/Mario Party, Trauma Center, No More Heroes, and probably a few more things. Also good if you have friends over a lot. Zelda Wii is coming out too. The good games on Wii are exceptional.

360 for Guitar Hero/Rock Band (good party game and better DLC support), Infinite Undiscovery(?), Oblivion, Mass Effect (M.E.2 coming soon), Ninja Gaiden 2, Final Fantasy XIII soon, and a bit more. Also a lot of shooters if you're into that sort of thing. Generally a more solid library in my opinion, but Guitar Hero/Rock Band might be your only party game. They're great, but are also expensive and take quite a bit of space.

i cant really help because i have both systems, *flame shield up* but i usually find myself playing the Wii a bit more. dont get me wrong, playing call of duty on xbox live is fun, but it doesnt half get boring after a while, but then again games in general, no matter what system, just dont really 'wow' me anymore, i dont know why. get whichever you want. most people here have already pledged their alliance with the 360 so who am i to argue?

Depends on what you like, If you like Nintendo franchises and the Virtual Console, get the Wii, If you like anything else, get a 360.

Ordinarily I'd say get a PS3, but if it has to be between those two, go for the 360. I am continuously disappointed when I see the games that are available for the Wii, and that's before you factor in its poor graphics and the frustrating qualities of the motion sensor.

Wii, because it won't break
I think this puts the vote count somewhere around:

360: 46
Wii: 1

I've had my 360 for 2.5 years and it hasn't given me a single problem, ever. I've had my Wii for a few months longer than that, and it... is in a drawer, collecting dust (until M3 comes out, at least).

Once more, I put down my vote for the 360. You may be cashing in the warranty on a regular basis, but the sheer joy you'll experience will more than make up for the downtime.

Hell, I've got two of the things. When one dies, I switch over to the other and cash in the warranty on the first.

Get a 360, there are a lot more RPGs you can get for it like Mass Effect, both KOTORs, Fable II, and some JRPGs.
Speaking of which, does KOTOR2 work well on the console? I have it for my PC but it is so buggy I literally can't finish it. The game is stuck in some sort of a loop. I'd really like to complete it some day...
Get the first patch and also on Telos on the hidden base inside the mesa don't give in instantly.

Also get a 360 they generally are better and you don't have to flail about like a madman to play it.

Get a Wii if you have people over a lot or have a girlfriend you're trying to get into games, but if you enjoy gaming by yourself/with random people on the internet then get a 360.

As said above, If you play RPGs the most often, go with a 360.

The Wii is a great console for Party Games, but the best bang for your buck would have to be the 360.

If you get a chance though, pick up a Wii down the line. You will be very happy.

Ever since I bought my Xbox 360, I haven't even turned on my Wii. Literally. That being said, if you'd like to buy a Wii, message me.

Get a 360. The Wii has some good games but overall the 360 has a better setup, more games, and are doing some neat things with their online.

I can't say thanks enough for the help guys---especially for those of you who listed pros and cons. Got a 360 on hold for me to grab tomorrow afternoon.

To answer some vague things. It would likely be me playing alone most of the time (I DO have a guy best friend who is over a lot in which a multiplayer thing might come in handy...got a few friends I could call up but scheduling a party would be a challenge; don't have friends I'm trying to break into gaming). And yeah, I probably will get another system later assuming my life doesn't take a turn for the busy or exciting.

I set up my purchase and got a few games that have multiplayer options for the occasional friend over situation. Couple of RPGs, of course. Plan to make use of the last of summer.

So thanks, guys!

I think the big question is do you want to play games (360) or have a load of fun (Wii). Obviously these aren't mutually exclusive as there are plenty of games on the Wii that are deep and immersive, and obviously playing immersive games is fun but a different kind of fun.

So basically figure out which one you'll enjoy more and go that way.
how is swinging a romote around immersive?

Xbox 360 wins hands down. I have both of those consoles and if i were to list why the Wii is truly terrible and disgusting i would sound like Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw.
