Whenever i turn on the console, it begins humming. Not humming really, it sounds like a saw. if you go "zzzzzzzzzzz" as high as you can, that is basically the noise. I haven't tried to play any games on it yet. has anyone had the same problem? I would call the Xbox people and see what they have to say, but I really don't want to talk to Max...bad times, Max, bad times (it is also about 1:30 am). So, any word you guys?

It's probably something hitting the fan, my external HDD does it all the time, if you have a snap-on fan, try taking it off, or looking in the back to see if something is indeed hitting the fan on the inside.

is it something that just started recently? it could be the fan is just working really hard if it is getting too hot, like if it is in a bad spot or something.

Just turned it on a few minutes ago, when I turned it on. The fan idea seems to make sense but, I'm debating actually opening the Xbox to see...

no don't open the system case itself, that would remove even the possibility of Microsoft fixing it if it comes to that.

Don't open it, just look in the little ventilation holes in the back with a flashlight.

They will charge you though. SO if all else fails make it RRoD and get it fixed that way.

The Disk drive spins at like a million RPM... Try installing a game to the HDD... unless it sounds like that even on the Dashboard... If that's the case, send it in...

Don't open it up! Last time I checked that voids getting Microsoft to repair it for you. I would say something probably blocking the fan, I would have no idea how the fix anything though as I am not very mechanically minded.

I have had this happening to me ever since I got my 360 and so far it hasn't really done anything to stop it from working. For me everything runs fine so I am not too worried bout the sound.

Wait, is this a new one? If so then you may just be unused to how loud the 360 is (it's a pain). Other wise install a game to the drive and try playing it. If it's quieter it's the disk drive (and is probably normal), if nothing happens then it may be the fan. That'll at least narrow it down.

Whatever you do, DO NOT open the case! Perhaps invest in one of those cans of compressed air and try giving the bastard machine a good clean?

Bad times! :(

Try giving it a little shake, never know, could just be the fans rubbing a misplaced wire.

my mate's xbox does this a lot of the time. it just hums a lot louder than mine. but it's been doing it for ages and he hasn't had a problem apart from it being a little irritating. i'd just ignore it unless it gets worse.
