I just woke up at 1:00 a.m after a terrible nightmare... I was sitting at my computer, and double clicked the "Team Fortress 2" icon on my desktop to play TF2 as I normally do. It said "Preparing to launch Team Fortress 2", but then another message came up. It said "Please put your 3D glasses on now". I looked at my lap and sure enough there was a pair of those godawful glasses on my knees. I picked them up, placed them on and got a new message that said my "Steam 3D" account had expired and I had to renew my subscription. I pulled out my credit card, punched in my number and hit "Renew" just as a huge picture of Gabe Newell flashed in front of my eyes. I woke up sweating like crazy and could feel my heart pounding through my chest. If that's what the future is like... I have plenty of Cyanide ready.

With all those games that we've "bought" from them, Steam really has us by the balls and can do pretty much anything they want at this point. They won't lose customers because no one wants to lose the games they've already paid for.

Kind of scary when you think about the way digital distribution and DRM works, isn't it?

Ugh, I agree, that's the only reason I keep agreeing to Sony's ToS, plenty of games that just won't fit on my hard drive.

In what way is 3D awful? I mean honestly, the 3D games I played on DS are pretty amazing and none of them REQUIRE 3D to be played.

The thing about 3D I kind of worry about is this:
When I go to watch a 3D movie, I need the break in the movie to give my eyes some rest, otherwise I do kinda get a little bit of a headache (not major, not anything to worry about, but it's just a little nuisance) or my eyes are being a little annoying or something like that.
I like 3D, it's enjoyable, but I can't keep it up for too long.
Now, games I prefer to play for as long as I can in one sitting... I mean, if it's a good game, isn't that the whole point? They want you to get sucked into the game, that at a certain point, you're like: OH MY GOD, I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR 8 HOURS NON-STOP, WHY DIDN'T I REALISE THIS?!... well, with 3d... playing 8 hours non-stop, after my eyes/head already start annoying me after half a movie? That would kinda ruin my immersion with the game.
So it's not that I despise 3D gaming... it's just that I don't see it working for myself, and I think I just prefer playing 2D and still feel like I'm being sucked in.

Yeah, I have the same kind of effect with the 3D. I was playing a friends 3DS with the 3D enabled, but I couldn't play it for too long otherwise I would get a headache and feel a bit nauseous. It would be OK as an optional feature, but if it was mandatory i wouldn't be too happy.

I don't get why people have this hatred for 3D as if it killed their parents or something. I can see why some may not really care for it (headaches, plenty of bad use of 3D in movies, price, etc) but I really like it and wish they'd implement it more and better than they normally do. For example, the only movies I've seen in 3D and felt that the 3D was good and worth the pay are Avatar, Resident Evil Afterlife, Tron Legacy, and Despicable Me.

I have a 3DS. 3D TV, movies, gaming - all gimmicks. It's not going to last. Why? Well I can't see myself ever forcing myself to wear glasses during a 12 hour gaming session (I feel sorry for people who wear glasses) and as for the 3DS ever try to keep your head still and focus on the right spot for hours on end... Then MOVE the screen because the game wants you too? It's not easy or comfortable. Fad. Won't last until they develop true, all angle, glasses-less 3D.

I think the problem with 3D gaming is that people always want to swipe at the 3D images like a cat with a ball of yarn, and you can't do that with a controller in your hand.
