Not nearly enough people recommending Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate :(

I'm recommending it to every 3DS owner.

A circle pad pro is a must for this game, unlike Fire Emblem or many others.

Yeah I have MH3U on the Wii U and my mate the 3DS XL so I couldn't comment on it, but he seems to enjoy the game enough and has never complained about the controls. So I guess he can't complain about what he hasn't experienced.

Motherfucking Luigi's mansion. I wasn't expecting this game to be all that great, because I wasn't a huge fan of the original, but holy crap was I wrong. Definitely a must play if you own a 3DS.

Also, Fire Emblem. I think everyone else has made it pretty clear why.

I don't get it, I played it and found the controls abnormally clunky, as well as irritating camera angles and other annoyances (drink the damn potion and stop posing afterwards!) and getting knocked out of the area by an attack (does that reset the monsters health?) So I wasn't impressed.
The controls take a bit of getting used to but they are way better on the 3ds than the psp ( anyone who played them should know the claw technique ;) ) the first time i played it I hated it because of the controls but after a bit of practice it becomes easy and a hell of a lot of fun

and no monster health doesn't regen at all moving zones doesn't do anything other than waste a little bit of time

Save at least 40$ for the end of this year:

You can ride a freakin' Gogoat
Only in 1 specific town though :x, and It's out worldwide in October.

I'm soon to buy a 3DS (XL) aswell, and am eagerly awaiting the purchase of Fire Emblem: Awakening, Pkmn X/Y and I might have to look into Etrian Odyssey :3.
I'm not sure what I love more about the idea of X/Y. The fact that it looks like it might just be the most awesome Pokemon game EVER or the fact that it's released the same day all over... being European I've grown accustomed to waiting for ages... Anyway, this game looks awesome, get it.

I like so many others is going to recommend Professor Layton and The Mask of Miracles (Miracle Mask if you're European).
Fire Emblem Awakening is a game I haven't bought yet, but I intend to because it looks like it might be the ebst game in the series (that's saying something).

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and a circle pad pro (it's terrible without it in my opinion) is my most played game this year and it's the game where I have reached 100 hours of playtime the fastest (8 days I think).

Tales of The Abyss might just be my favourite game for the 3DS.

Star Fox 64 3D (what a title, eh?)
Would be more fitting if they had called it Lylat Wars 3D and spared those numbers... however people wouldn't have known it was a Star Fox game then...

Edit: It should be noted that Monster Hunter 3 is a niche game and wont appeal to everyone. The demo is a little bad since you can't sue the circle pad pro attachment, but you should check that out before considering a purchase.

Do you happen to know if Tales of the Abyss is available in Europe? And, if not, might be playable on an European 3DSXL?

It got released in Europe. I thank the video game gods for that since I really love the series despite the abusive relationship when it comes to releases.

I'm also thinking of getting a few more games for my 3DS. Does anybody know if the 3DS version of Sonic Generations is any good?

Aside from Pokemon X and Y because we all know that is going to be a major deal breaker for consumers close to release date-

-Monster Hunter 3
- Rayman Legends
-Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (providing you don't already own the game)
-Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinitey (if your a veteran I wouldn't really recommend it. It's not bad but...)
- Cave Story 3D
-Luigis Mansion 2
