420 Why?

My question's are simple, Why put 420 on your gamertag? Is it for bragging rights? Are they wanting attention? Is it a lack of creativity? Because something about coming out screaming "I smoke pot, yes I do" makes me want the government to start making notes about population control (hints: cut down the gene pool).

note: This is more comical then serious, but would like to see what you, of the Escapist Nation think.

Sometimes it is because the name is taken. For example, my normal name is "Radeon", but it was taken so I added an "x" to the end.

Actually, I have an oooold account online with 420 all over it, simply because the site suggested it as a name not taken yet and I didn't know what it meant at the time. Ah, naivete.

It's most likely a kid who's never even seen weed who's trying to be cool. I honestly don't think you're cool if you put 420 in your name regardless.

There's a lot of people who just don't care about thier name. They put in something they like off the top of thier head, it comes back already taken and gives an alternative name using the name they wanted with a little something extra, like numbers at the end, and they click okay and start playing. Personally I'm one to spend hours trying to find a name I truly like not taken, but other people would just prefer to start playing instead.

When I see people doing stuff like that (drawing leaves on their walls, shrooms, hell even putting signs on their door room) I don't directly mind since it has no effect on me, but it gives me the information that that person does that. And that pretty much leads straight to stereotyping them.

I wonder what those kids thinks about us when they see a gamer t-shirt or an online comic sticker...

The first sender was right. When your name is taken, you have to put something at the end. Be it, the year you were born, a number that means something to you, a random letter, or 420 because you smoke pot.

I can't imagine this problem being too huge though.

The origin of the term stems from a story about a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971.[1][2] The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue.

According to an April 2009 article on the Huffington Post, the group called itself the Waldos because its members hung out by a wall after school. Writer Ryan Grim, citing interviews with anonymous Waldos, claims that the group met by the statue at 4:20 p.m. to begin a search for a crop of unguarded cannabis growing near Point Reyes that they had heard about. They never found the stash, Grim writes, but smoked plenty of marijuana while looking for it.

From there it went on to become a day to celebrate and get massively high. That day is of course April 20 (04/20/2xxx). There are parties, concerts, all sorts of zaniness on that day. Attack of the Show does a special on it every year.

That was the origin. 420 now refers to the date, April 20th. But it IS in celebration of a bunch of high schoolers who gathered round a statue at 4:20 each day to smoke pot. The main idea is it's a gathering for people who are pro the legalization of marijuana Either way, it's all really really dumb.
