What does 420 refer to exactly?
From the OP I figure it has something to do with marijuana smokers, but why?
420 does reflect the marijuana culture, why? something about boys from a school always got high at 4:20 p.m... wikipedia told me that but I hold what wikipedia says with a grain of salt becuase it's a dirty girl.
That was the origin. 420 now refers to the date, April 20th. But it IS in celebration of a bunch of high schoolers who gathered round a statue at 4:20 each day to smoke pot. The main idea is it's a gathering for people who are pro the legalization of marijuana Either way, it's all really really dumb.
Someone informed me that 4-20 is actually police jargon used to confirm a situation in which a suspect has possession of marijuana (i.e. *over radio* "We got a 4-20 in progress on Jefferson Avenue.")
You are correct sir! That's why they celbrate it on 4/20. Irony is not lost on pot smokers.

This is very similar to my take on the whole matter. A holiday dedicated to smoking pot? Come on. What's next? Is there going to be a holiday dedicated to drinking?

Oh wait.

Some people enjoy smoking pot, so they put the number in there. Isn't a username supposed to reflect you in some way in a lot of cases? If I liked waffles, maybe my username would be "wafflesforlife" or something, no need to get into a tizzy because it's a marajuana reference.

that's mostly true

and wikipedia is actually a fairly accurate source of information, on par with the encyclopedia britanica

the other part is a 4-20 was a police code for a marijuana bust. tho that's not really verified which city it came from

Sometimes it is because the name is taken. For example, my normal name is "Radeon", but it was taken so I added an "x" to the end.
yeah like how i put 666 at the end of mine

I think it's a bragging thing. I can understand the random numbers at the end of the tag if the name is taken, but why put that? Seriously?

4-20 is something that was only funny once, and I'm sure as hell it wasn't the 32,362nd time it was told.[/quote

Maybe he created his character on April 20th? at 4:20p.m.?

I like my stupid joke name especially when dumb people start making fun of me for it. To me xbox live is a devoid wasteland of anything relevant so I really dont care.

Ripped this off of a website but here ya go

The Origin Revealed
According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation. While our teens feel that they know something we don't, you can let them in on the fact that it was your generation that came up with the numbers.

A quote from one of the Waldos in the High Times article states, "We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420." Fortunately, your teenagers will not have that same option.

I'm perfectly in my rights to look down on someone for having that attitude.
So then you are of the opinion that you can think poorly of someone due to one trait they exibit without fully knowing them? Well congrats that is the exact same thing I was talking about being perfectly normal, and you where implying you where looking down at me for it.

Terminalchaos said:
There are plenty of people that annoy me and I don't beat myself up for disliking them, but I don't try to fool myself into thinking I'm a superior person for looking down upon them either.
I never tried to imply I was superior to everyone else. A bit to you, but mostly for not being delusional.

I find it funny that you would equivocate a non-condescending attitude with hippy love. I find gross generalizations amusing and pitiful simultaneously (unless they are for comedic sake.)

As far as what I said having nothing to do with what you said: false- it was mostly in reply to your last statement. I never said you said you had a problem with smokers but you do appear to be a bit condescending of those who have different tastes than you (to be fair I am making that assessment based upon limited data.) Must be a touchy issue for you too if you resort to direct personal name-calling. We can both agree at least to look down on those whom we choose to and possibly look down at each other for having different attitudes of looking down.
I wrote a bit of explanation text here, but well I already basically wrote the same thing, and still got this answer. So yeah, agree to disagree and all that jazz. Oh and the name calling thing. Thats not really name calling to me. Numbnuts is more like saying silly or goof. Not really intended to be insulting. I would have called you dumbass or well if I start giving other examples it could end bad, but suffice it to say the ones I used where not meant to be insulting.
