Japan isn't that crazy, these are just a few things that are highlighted upon. People are shot everyday in America, so just because something out of ordinary happens over there its a big deal here. While their society is very repressed (which causes a lot of these problems), American society is quite Victorian in that while things are not repressed (as much) but they are performed and then lied about in a hypocrical manner.
