I think the editing of rice balls was to be more recognizable to the kids who watch it.

Anime fans. Annoying the general public since 1992.
Anime haters. Annoying everyone by hating random things throughout time.
First they're anime haters, then they're just random haters? Make up your mind, will you?

All we need now is for someone to say that Griffith ruined Sonic and the circle is complete, if that truly happens in all seriousness, I will leave The Escapist forever.
Griffith ruined Sonic

I am saying that right now they are hating anime but they hated other things at different times.

No, it is not racist towards Japanese culture.

My pathological hatred of Japanese culture, however, could well be described as such.

Look, the name says it all. 4Kids is broadcasting shows FOR KIDS! I'm so tired of all the whiney, whingey anime obsessed people out there who constantly rag on 4Kids for editing scenes like this one I heard about in Yu-Gi-Oh where originally a pervert was recording women in a gym, so they edited out the camera and all the scenes shot through the camera. If they aired something like that they'd be burnt at the stake by all the angry western mothers of the world. Though I don't know what you're saying about them editing out the Japanese culture. When I was younger I watched alot of shows like Digimon, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh (Oh and Bey-blades) and the characters use to always ho down things like sushi, rice and Japanese treats (I always used to wonder what they were eating...if they have stopped doing that maybe all the people who were as confused as I was wrote up about it).

No-one's forcing you to watch the edited versions. Okay admittedly they do cut out wierd things (I was surprised to learn that Yu-Gi-Oh had a mother in the original series, my best guess is that they figured he needed a little dramatic back story and if he did have a mother it would be like a running joke. "Oh here comes Yugi, the boy with the mother who doesn't give a shit if he fights in deadly card games and galavants all over the world fighting villains") but like I said before they make it for kids. In fact that's why I can never take the real anime seriously. To me a standard anime show is the equivalent of Popeye punching Olive Oyl in the face after Wimpy hid Popeyes booze to stop him drinking...and then they all go off looking for the seven magic crystals of Lamma with swords the size of motorcycles and enemies what look like transvestite clowns with really bad hair-dos.

they o it because they think the only way to appeal to kids in america is to make things americans would do

i dont think they are racist, i think they are trying to keep the culture of the kids as a pure blooded United States Resident, everybody knows that once the Japanese culture gets into your veins its going to make you weird, buy swords and learn japanese, and its one step away from hentai wich everyone knows is all about rape

and heaven forbid the kids might actually "learn" something from their shows
hentai isnt about rape. thats only like, 80 percent.

:/
as a Hentai fan I have to say that you are wrong, but i`m not here to make people change their oppinion, there is more than just one kind of Hentai you know :p

and yes the "Rape" in hentai makes headlines and titles in newspapers because people "look" for that kind of Hentai, but there is a ton more than that

So, their seams to be a consensus that they're not racist, just fucking stupid. Consensus outside of the people who hate people who point out censorship for retards. But who cares about them?

Although i do my best not to watched dubbed versions regardless, so it's a moot point for me.

I think A) would be correct, but the companies have to make money somehow. Dumning down and whitewashing doesn't bother children. Even when i was younger i watched 4kids but any other time your better off just watching subs, so there isn't that much to complain about here, considering it is a kid station.
Sorry if that is incoherent.

I just hate how they changed it from a Rice Ball to a Sammich so American Kids could understand it.
Really?
Kids aren't that fucking stupid, they'd just assume it's japanese food.
Maybe the teens are that stupid.

To answer your questions in order.

A.) Quit crying racist. Go find out what it means before you decry it. They simply want the audience to be able to relate with the characters. At no point did they air anti-Japanese bullshit that included the many actual racist slurs used to refer to the Japanese people.
B.) No, since I can watch the original Pokemon episodes on the internet, and I am pretty sure I have all of the episodes on several VHS tapes.
I dunno about you, but changing a black man into a white man is well...
My friend, they did that to AVOID being racist. Just like how Dragonball Z was accused of being racist for Mr. Popo and Pokemon for Jynx. People are rediculous like that.

Anyway, those who think it's racist, are you saying that the entire staff of 4Kids is racist? Because one man can't change an entire series just because he wants to. I really hate it when people immediatly turn to this. How the hell is changing rice balls to sandwiches racist? Against rice balls maybe.

They do it so western viewers wouldn't be confused about Japanese culture, and in the end make more money. That's what everything is about, making more money. If it would make them more money, they would put a big swastika on every character. It really has nothing to do with racism or anything else they believe.
