1. Streetlight Manifesto - Some of the best ska out there. Very instrumental but deep lyrics

2. Nine Inch Nails - Its not for everyone but NIN is full of some creative writing, catchy industrial loops, and have the best live show ever.

3. Aesop Rock - A rapper with a strange creative sense of humor in his lyrics. Also he doesn't talk about hos and money.

4. Imogen Heap - A talented pop/rock/electronica singer with a beautiful voice who performs on a wide range of instruments.

5. Anything that Mike Patton has ever had a hand in - Nothing else to say there

Well....if i had to name five bands that no one should have any problem with;

Arcade Fire.
R.E.M.

.....no i can only name two. Muse are a close third but i'm sure that there are those out there who don't like them.

Edit: God what's wrong with me! Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Florence + The Machine. It seems to take people a while to like Florence but after a few months all of my friends admit that she's awesome.

P.S. TV On The Radio, Battles and British Sea Power are all excellent too but not everyone would like them.

In no particular order...
5.Rage Against The Machine (Kick-ass political rap rock.)
4.Miles Davis (Revolutionary trumpet. Miles is as cool as you can get.)
3.Dead Kennedys (Punk rock, and yes I still like them after they broke up.)
2.Mindless Self Indulgence (Funny alternative/techno band.)
1.All Gussied Up (Local Death metal with smooth jazz interludes. They're on myspace if you want to check them out.)

Yes it's all pretty stereotypical. But I really don't care.

Rush
Joe Satriani
Jaco Pastorius
Victor Wooten (Especially SMV; Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller would both be on this list if I didn't mind filling it with bassists)
Rush

3. InMe
4. Hell Is For Heroes

Those 5 are great songs and great bands.

Oh, and please listen because it took me forever to find decent quality, embedable videos of the songs I wanted.
