Don't be like that. Us does a lot. They send people to fight wars for oil corporations, they make nuclear weapons and tell others not to, they use media to brainwash us etc. etc. That's a lot of work...

I think its sad. Wish I could just rob a bank and then drop it all over the poor people.
As cute and good that sounds it would accomplish nothing. It's not just money and food they need, it's education and in poor countries in Afrika for example you need to develop a lot of things and organize those people. A wise Chinese dude by the name Confucius once said: "don't give me fish, teach me how to catch it." So, yeah, you get the point.

Well considering when we do give them tons of money/food it fucks up the local economy to ruin

Listen, we would have solved this problem were it not for the fact these are very complex issues. In Africa, we have tribal fighting, Islamic groups attempting to establish caliphates, Christian groups calling for the execution/jailing of homosexuals, stigmas against condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS, and soil which cannot support the European methods of farming. Add to that the fact that many primitive beliefs and superstitions which ultimately cause damage to both humans and other organisms on the continent and you have a giant cluster fuck.

Oh, also damage from the Age of Empires(not the game lol).
This as well.

It's not apathy that causes inaction, it's the inability for effectiveness

Remember Band-Aid? That fund raiser that popular musicians did? You remember that the African governments just wanted the money, the musicians bought food and supplies in advance. They shipped the boat over and the governments let the food and supplies rot in the habour. They flew it in, some people got food and supplies then the governments took it away and threatened to blow the next plane that tried it out of the sky. Their government wants money and bailouts, that needs to change for Africa to better itself. The corrupt governments running Africa are what's holding Africa back.

That's why we do cannot do nothing, the assholes (powerful people running these countries into the ground) remain in power and refuse to let anyone help their people. Lets not forget that we can't even prevent people dying of hunger and diesease in our own countries.

I do something:

I stay the F away from Africa.

EDIT: Funnily enough, the African continent did a lot better under British and French rule than they do now. But nooooo, they wanted independance at the time. Now they want a bailout.

To the original poster I pose this question. Have you donated every single penny of your disposable income to charity? I am gonna bet the answer is no. I think this was the subject of a Dilbert TAS episode.

We try sending food to countries like North Korea as well as several ones in Africa. But the problem is that the food we send is then picked up by the two-bit despot regimes and fed to the supporters of those regimes. We try man, but we can't help people when their governments and/or warlords simply take all the food for themselves. Charity can only go so far.

When did it become another countries responsibility to protect and feed another countries people? Things should be done by each country but why is it anyone ELSE'S responsibility?

This is the funniest thing, when the US does something, everyone complains about it, when the US does nothing everyone complains about it.

Fact of the matter is, the US is in debt, it's in shambles in a lot of ways, why should the U.S. hop on over delivering all the things said country needs when the things it can't even do for it's own unemployed/homeless? Or you know HEALTH CARE?

People donate, people fly out there and help personally, send vaccines and such. That's a lot of help if you ask me. So ask yourself this, what have YOU done? :)

So what are you doing about it besides posting about it on a gaming site where nothing is accomplished?

We can't just feed them. It's tragic that they're dying, but feeding them is just going to put a strain on a country which already has no infrastructure. When they're fed, they need jobs, they need more food, etc. Don't feel afraid to support this view; we're not playing the devil's advocate, we're just being realistic.

Alternatively, you could just say that George Bush hates black people.

We breed so needlessly. Do we need five children in a family? No. No one does. However, just like animals, we breed more if there is a higher infant mortality rate to compensate for the amount of children that'll probably die.

We can solve this easily.

Nuke Africa and then 4 million of those children will be dead of nuclear radiation.

No more hunger!
Hey easy pal I am an immigrant from Zambia and I love Africa. Not all of Africa is the crap hole that movies portray it as. Yes there are villages that are like that but Africa is a great continent, you just gotta know where to go. And in my house in Lusaka, Zamiba I had a TV, computers, video games, etc.

Say that to football players who makes millions a year to spend on huge houses and cars. Say that to the talentless musicians who earn more money that most people and spend it on drugs and alcohol. Say that to the government who is trillions of dollars in debt and continues to throw money on the pile.

The world isn't a perfect place.
Indeed, you are right.

I appreciate your concern for the starving children but just remember that it's up to the individual to start making a difference. My family gives 100 dollars a month (minimum, sometimes more) no matter where we stand financially. Don't just feel sorry, do something if you really care. Give what you can, when you can. That's the best thing that an individual can do.

I did the analysis of this some time ago and I have to say that we are already doing more than enough to stop children from starving. Even though it is only .01 percent of our GDP in foreign aid, it turns into 36 billion dollars if we look at real dollar amounts. That is a Carl Sagan Billion, mind you. Sure most of that money is spent in house and is given to non profits charities, is spent to buy surplus foods from farms, and is used to buy, transport, and maintain tractors and other farm equipment. That does not include the billions we have given to fund U.S. based private research into creating rice and other staple crops that will grow into those harsh areas of the world.

With government money, Monsanto has created a strain of rice that literally grows like a weed. All it needs is a little water and it sprouts. It is literally sustained by ambient moisture in the air and it is ready to harvest after 16 weeks. A handful of these rice seeds can grow enough rice to sustain a village of 100 individuals for 4 months. Monsanto, due to an agreement with federal government, gives this strain of rice away for free to whoever wants it.

How come this plant has not been given to these parts of the world? It is because organizations like Greenpeace get in the way. Greenpeace, who uses green rhetoric to spread their is anti-big business message, has managed to convince 3rd world nations to out law this strain of rice. They use fear, coercion, and outright bribery to prevent this strain of rice from being place. If the rice strain gets into the country anyway, Greenpeace has been known to go into that country and burn the crops before they germinate.

Now, before anyone says otherwise, No, I am not a shill for big business. If there was no deal with the government in place, Monsanto would gladly sell this product without hesitation. I just think that it is more important to feed the world than worry about what kinds of foods are allowed to grow and which ones are not.

Most people will agree with that...untill they find out they'll have to hand in a good chunk of their own luxury to make it happen. And since many people already start protesting if their salary doesn't permit them to go on vacation every year, I don't see this happing soon.

Plus, Africa is as corrupted as can be. Simply throwing money at it like they do with Live Aid isn't going to help.

What else are we supposed to do?

Are we able to repair the economic or political conditions that cause such starvation?

Forgive me if i come across badly but charity begins at home. In all of our countries there are so many sick and quite a few homeless that need our help and I believe that they should be helped before we worry about any other country

The 2 biggest world health issues are starvation and obesity,
which leads me to my revolutionary plan! We should feed the fat people to the starving! :D
