I am not sure if you heard or know, but Control is getting a complete edition on next gen consoles. The problem being is that it's barely been a year, and that they want you to buy a game again while claiming it's a "free" next gen upgrade. I am shocked 505 is doing this. I know this nothing new to the industry, but at least there is usually some neat bonuses and the game is at a cheaper price. IE: DMC4 Special Edition added extra characters and LDK mode (which was PC only at the time) & DmC: Definitive Edition re-balanced the game play and added all the DLC costumes & skins unlocked from the start with a new difficulty mode. Which goes to show pointless buying most AAA games are nowadays. Why bother the shell/vanilla version when they're going to make another and charge you full price (Hello, Last of Us Remastered & God of War III). All that means is there is going to be a "GOTY" (I remember when GOTY editions meant something back in the 90s & early 2000s), "Complete", "Definitive", or "Remastered". I did not buy any of their games, but I thought 505 were one of the more decent publishers/developers. Turns out I was wrong.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I think this might be partially for the steam release since those bastards kept it epic exclusive for a year. Doing an ultimate edition would give them an excuse to sell it full price when it comes to steam. Although its also not a bad marketing idea, get the game back in the limelight with the new consoles coming out. Its still a cynical move, but it makes sense from a marketing perspective.

Jim noted it in his video. The steam users are getting the better deal, yet Epic is still charging $60.00 for a game that has been out for year now. Make sense marketing wise, but still bullshit. Because of this, I can't trust 505 Games now. Control is an average game and is not worth spending a total of $100+ overall within the year. Say what you will about DMC4 Special Edition and DmC DE, but at least it took more than 1 year for them to come out.

Hrmm, I don't think hes wrong, but this is somewhat standard behavior. I mean, I'm not sure how different this is from releasing the game of the year edition that tosses in the dlc for new purchasers. Granted that usually takes a bit longer to come out, but its still really common. It seem like the most asshole thing they are doing is claiming something about a free upgrade but making it convoluted enough that it doesn't actually seem to exist.

See, what they should have done was what Square did with the Deus Ex: Human Revolution director's cut launch. When it was released, it was $20. However, if you owned the OG version of Human Revolution, it was discounted to $10. If you had the Missing Link DLC, it discounted it to like, $5

It went back up over time, but for a good couple of months it was a very inexpensive upgrade path.

I remember that, and it was definitely a better deal by comparison. Even with the temporary inexpensive upgrade path there was some minor controversy to an extent. At least Squeenix gave customers a way better deal.

Look, Gamers are Pavlovian when it comes to just about anything. A publisher could offer a fantastic deal that makes them money and makes the customer feel valued and there’d still be a faction of complete shits who are unsatisfied because they have to spend some money.

505 should have offered an upgrade to existing customers for like, $10 to turn their version into the complete edition if they have no DLC, and $5 if they have the DLC. I don’t have a copy of the game so I’m paying full price and that’s fair enough.

Didn't 505 used to (or still do) own Payday. And then added pay to win microtransactions. So, this would be par for the course

I completely forgot about them publishing Pay Day 2. I know Jim made a justifiable big stink about it for a while, and brings it up from time to time.
