Are you running Windows 7 and do you plan to make heavy use of DirectX 11? If so, the 5770 is probably the better choice...but only slightly. If you don't care quite as much about DirectX 11, the 260 is a little more flexible and a (again, only slightly) better performer on most games. Overall, either will work fine.

I have a slightly different question:

I'm thinking of upgrading from a Radeon 4850 to a 5770. (Anything higher won't fit in my mini-tower case.) Is this worth it?

Well every ATI card I have used has died on me, so I am afraid my argument is going to be a bit one sided...

Get the nvidia dangit!

Depends on what you are doing, if you want to play at higher resolutions then maybe, if however you are playing at 1600x1050 or lower then to drop over a hundred quid on a graphics card that will, for the most part give you anywhere from 4 to 30 FPS, depending upon the game, well no it isn't worth it. Save some more cash and take a bigger step up the GPU ladder.

Mind you saying all this, I dunno what OS you are running what hardware you currently have, what res you play games at or for that matter what games you intend to play.

5770 is cooler, smaller, uses less power, and supports DX11. 260 is a hair faster (~5%) and supports PhysX. Go with the cheaper one.

thank you well power wasn't really an issue but its the 5770 by quite a margin on price

I have a 5770, it's cool and quiet enough that having my computer on doesn't turn my bedroom into a sauna, and I can leave it on while downloading something and sleep easily.

What size moniter you running. Generally ATI's run better at higher resolutions. So anything over 21-22" or so you would be better of with the ATI.

i say go with nvidia...i had ati and nvidia( currently on 9600gt)and i have to say nvidia never faild me,while i had 2 ati(9550 and the x1650)the 9550 always had compatibility issues and the x1650 died on me...at performances they are both there, but overall the nvidia's are better(i had the nvidia riva tnt2,the fx5200,8500 and now the 9600),i was planning on getting in the summer x285 but instead i bought the xbox360,but as i was saying, if i was ever to buy another graphics card i will only buy nvidia...again,performances are equal, but the ati isn't always cheaper because they like to sell graphics card's with the same capabilities (maybe even better)like nvidia, its because they use cheaper material that will last 40-50% less then the nvidia cards that are made to last longer...i have the 9600 for about 2 years, never had any problems with it...so from the 2 cards buy the nvidia...they are very equal and don't think u will play games at a higher res or better details with either of them...they will act the same in any games u will play..if u play stalker at very high and at 1680x1050 with both of them u will have problems..but if u play at normal u wont feel a thing...its up to you to decide but nvidias are more reliable...much more reliable

The materials are used by the manufacture like xfx or palit not ati or nvidia the just make the chip so whats your point ? you bought bad manufacturer's equipment both the nvidia and the radeon im talking about have a double life time warranty.

mate the i'm talking about the GPU of the graphic card...i never look to warranty because if lets say breaks down, you go proud with your life time warranty to the store, they will say w8 4 about 1-2 weeks, then after u get it back(only in rare case exceptions u will see a brand nnew one),u put it in your pc works fine for about 3 days and after that u go back, with the same shit w8 again 2 weeks, enjoy it 3 days after 2 more weeks u get a new one:)is it worth it???and i'm not the only one to have had these problems...i'm not saying this happens only to ati,the same is with nvidia only at a much lower scale...i had the same manufacturer (assus)and it only happend to ati chips...it wasn't the fan,it was allways the chip...it had issues at 1st, like freezing with some strange stripes in some games, and after a while it died...i send it back, got it "fixed" after a few days the same shit...one of my colleagues had the same problem, with a sapphire ati x1550 card, and a heard other story's as well...and a friend had a leadtek nvidia 9500 that had some problems but it was the fan there...i can tell when there is a manufacturer problem or GPU problem...and it also is wrriten in my warranty what was the problem...GPU fail blablabla something about the software of the gpu and shit...anyways stick with nvidia...bad things happen to ati...

Well I live in the uk so warranty laws are different or if live you dont understand them. You generally seem to have had a a shit experience with bunch of old cards world moved on there tech completely changed.
