The highly sought-after demographic that gamers represent is fraught with challenges, but rife with opportunities. As with approaching any new market, upping your brand's credibility and visibility with the gaming community should be goals that are defined by a great strategy. But with gamers -- who view themselves as advertising resistant and brand loyal -- you need to go the extra mile and prove that you're aligned, that your brand's approach is honest, sincere, and long-term, and that they're valued.

So, in no particular order, here are six non-endemic brands that get it, along with suggestions for how they can further improve upon their strategy

Dude, did you write this yourself? Or did you just put 0 effort into this post by just copy/pasting the article's intro? Either way, come on man.

To respond... I'd have to disagree with pretty much everything I read. Selling a Modern Warfare brand SUV is not "getting" gamers. And wasn't the Sony game-phone pretty much a flop?

T-mobile gets gamers? It's a phone company, what'd they do? Offer crappy service?

Schick? We shave?

...This is horrible :( I either don't understand my own subculture...or this is very wrong.

It's an article on a marketing site. 'getting' just means 'convincing gamers to buy your product'. In most of the given cases: trying unconvincingly.

See, THAT I agree with.

The closest I've ever seen to a company "getting" gamers is whenever Mountain Dew releases some sort of game related tie-in drink.

Because while it may not apply to everybody on the planet who plays games, I've seen more than my fair share of gamers from several different genres of game swig down that sour green bubbly like it's water. Hell that's what I've noticed COD fans and WOW fans have the most in common...Mountain Dew.

Just slapping some flavor of the month video game onto a product doesn't mean you "Get" gamers.

If I walk around with a sign that says "Free Chocolate", you wouldn't say I get women...
