I've had my 360 brick on me only once so far. It's a launch box and it was only recently that this happened, so I guess it was just a matter of time. Pissed me off at the time, though.

i know its just not alot of people i know use linux and when i put the ubuntu OS on my computer there were alot of problems because of my computer not the OS.
you must have some whacked out hardware then, kernel needed to be recompiled at the most. i've yet to run into a lot of hardware it doesn't run on, especially ubuntu

Luckily I haven't had those three red lights pop up yet.

Oddly enough I've had one red light a few times, and two red lights, but never three. One and two seem to fix themselves though.

It kind of suprises me too, because I leave this thing running like it's in a marathon sometimes, so I actually expect it to give me the white flag and for me to go through my "dead hardware" symptoms.

- Anger
- Random street violence
- Arrest
- Bail
- Acceptance

I'm just glad the warrenty is 3 years now, although that only covers red ring issues.

A friend of mine had his 360 die on him a few days ago, but it wasn't a ring issue. It would start up, and then the screen would just crash into a pixelated mess. When he called in, he was told that the 3 years didn't cover that, and that since his one year had just barely passed, that they'd allow him to send it back and they'd send him a new one with just one years warrenty.

That said... if mine does die, I'd rather it be red rings than anything else.

But it does work, and has done for quite a while, so thats blown your argument out of the water.
what about the several times you had to return it cause it didn't work cause it was broken? your argument is blown out of the water by your own words and admission
But just like any product, if it breaks, I take it to be repaired/replaced, just because this product breaks more than it's competitors doesn't mean its not better.

The box plays the games I want it to, is cheaper than it's comparable rival, and (as I said before) is a lot better for online play.

actually yes if something breaks more it makes it worse than the thing that doesn't

the quality of something is one of the major factors in how things are scored when reviewed

But ALL consoles break, and TBH so does everything else.

When your car breaks down, you don't immediately call it shit and buy a new one, you get it fixed.

In the UK you have to get an MOT once a year, and they'll usually find something on the car that needs replacing, does that make the car crap? or worse than any of it's competitors?

Point is, my 360 is working, I'm happy with it, It plays the games I want it to, and I got it for half the price of a PS3.

Seems like a result to me.

I have this weird thing where I get one red light, an error message saying E68 comes up, and I have to take off the hard drive, and then reattach it for it to work. Never had three red lights though.

Mine hasn't RRoD'd yet. Hopefully, it never will. Had it since Christmas and the only problem it had was when it couldn't read the Rock Band disc. It's fine now.

possibly but not with the frequency that the 360 had

yes i would get it fixed HOWEVER if i kept having the same thing break multiple times, i'd demand my money back under the law

also with cars, i've had one repair due for something that broke on my car in almost 7 years of owning it, i've replaced tires, brakes and brakepads due to wear and tear on the car but that's it

and you've had to replace it how many times? so the money you "saved" was lost because you had to keep returning it over and over

Never had a single problem with my xbox360 or xbox live.

My mic was acting up a bit yesterday but other than that can't complain.

I'm pretty sure that the reason people put up with the failures (16% I believe last count?) is because there has been no alternative.

The vast majority of current multi-plat games play better on 360 than PS3 and the number of worthwhile console exclusive titles the PS3 has as a counter to this weighs in a hefty 2.

Recently the PS3 has hit it's stride (in software terms) - Multiplats are as good if not better than the 360 version and the installs mean faster loading time.
The problem has been that if playing next-gen games is what you want then the 360 has been the only worthwhile option, after all a console is only as good as it's software library.

As the PS3 continues to improve less and less people will be willing to put up with dodgy hardware from MS.

Install is to make up for slow BD drive the load times are equal or PS3 has slight improved on initial load (not loading saves, areas etc.)But yes the PS3 is picking up stride now the question is will it be able to surpass the 360s lead?

In terms of sales or quality software? In terms of sales I would say it's almost a certainty, for software it's slightly more complicated...

I've said from very early on that by the end of this generation of hardware everything will turn out even between PS3/360 and that most people interested enough will own one of those two as well as a Wii.

Thing is, the 360 will have been pushed to it's limit before the PS3 so who decides when this generation ends?

It's interesting stuff - I've had my 360 over two years (no RRoD) and I wonder how much more the hardware can give.
We keep hearing that the PS3 has much more to give - if this is the case I would expect it will force MS into launching their next - hopefully better made - system while the PS3 is still going strong.

Who knows maybe the xbox 720(?) and the maxed out PS3 will run into the sales stopping brick wall of Oilmageddon?

Simply put, I put up with the failure rate because it's the platform that has the games I want to play. I don't play consoles, I play games; so I go where the games I like are, and that was the 360, RRoD or not. I suspect that's the case for many, maybe even most, of those with Xboxes.

It's getting easier to put up with RRoD because it's getting less frequent with the rebuilds and the hardware refresh, and because MS has jumped through flaming hoops to ensure folks don't walk away from the 360 because of it.

What part of FREE RETURN are you not getting?

If i've gotta go to town, I walk.

FREE.

I don't pay to swap it.

FREE.

I even walk back.

FREE.

I've not paid a goddamn PENNY to swap any of my 360's

as for demanding my money back, that would leave me without a current-gen console, which is not what I want, couple that with Live being paid for already, as well as several XBLA games, I'm not willing to give up on my 360.

I think it's safe to say that for funzies Microsoft keeps resending the same boxes out. They get it in the shop, slap a send sticker on it and hope that the people get tired of going through the motions. Oh what a nice set up they have, wish I would have thought of it first....
