What we've learned from this poll is that parents want to be the ones who decide which games their kids play, not the videogame industry."
Um... they are? Why are people so damn stupid!?

They picked 2100 adults from across America and think that +/-1500 halfassed folks opining their views on videogames they don't want their children to play even though they buy the damn things themselves to spoil the kids with knowing full well about ratings and what they imply invariably prove that the games industry is lacking?

"What we've learned from this poll is that parents want to be the ones who decide which games their kids play, not the videogame industry."

What the hell is this? Parents ALREADY decide which games their kids play. Ratings are in place to SHOW parents which games are okay to let their kids play. Stores have policies to PROHIBIT kids from buying certain games. But noooooooo. That's not enough amirite? These people want to explicitly limit the sale of all videogames and take away the rights of the medium under the guise of ''protecting the children''.

Hey, I'm not American. But this ticks me off indeed. There always everywhere seems to be a group of sour people with sticks up their bums that would like nothing better than to censor anything and everything and have their and everyone else's children grow up in giant hamster balls.

There are too many wholes in that i am not even going to bother.
But still the survey thing is pathetic only 2100 people that is nothing that is not a cross section. That is me discovering 50% of everyone is a vegetarian because i asked 2 people, With the populartion of the states being in its millions why is it not out of 10,000 or a 100,000 people survayed yes it will cost a lot in processing but that makes it fair...of cause they dont want a 100% fair fight do they.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
still sounds like a bullshit poll, and only 2100 people did it? oh ok, no wonder its so skewed, who would visit that site and even do that poll except thoes that are already suspicious of games and think they are destroying the youth. like comics and rock and roll did

I think more people would oppose the law if they only had it's implications explained to them. Of course no one wants kids getting their hands on mature content, but that doesn't necessarily mean censorship is appropriate of effective.

Did anyone else think that montage was mildly hilarious? And you have to think, it is all probably coming from a guy who supports banning videogames, yet he still owns the tape.

Ahh, where would we be without stupid parents?

I think that series of questions is missing one. Like:

4. How well do you attempt to educate yourselves on the rating system.

well, if parents do not want them to play said video game, they SHOULD NOT OF BOUGHT IT FOR THEM ANYWAY, even so, THEY HAVE THE POWER TO TAKE AWAY FROM THEIR CHILDREN.

72% isn't the number of people who support the law. It is the number of people who support it OR couldn't care less. People who don't care tend to go with the default option (in this case, children killing people is bad!).

This means the real numbers are probably somewhere closer to - Support:20% Oppose:20% Don't Care:60%

22% of parents being intelligent, educated people who know the issue and are willing to speak out against it. Just wow, thats way higher than expected.

But then I live in Australia and we're already the biggest "think of the children!" country in the world so...

Holy shit that's a terrifying finding. Like, how much more is the industry supposed to do?

This is an uphill battle, and it's made far worse by people's ignorance and willingness to believe the worst. The most ridiculous part is that despite all the information the industry puts out, parents, even those concerned about violence still dismiss all games as kids toys.

Just yesterday, while working in a game store, I told a mother buying her 12 year old son a copy of GTA:Vice City Stories that the game was age rated 17+ and her response was:

"Oh, he doesn't turn the violence on, he just plays it for the racing."

wut.

brain hurting. has anyone ever said something more stupid when it came to games and their kids. also the only ultra violent game they mentioned was manhunt and postal 2 (I first thought it said portal 2). 'he doesn't turn the violence on' especially makes my head hurt you can't flik a switch whether he can hit someone or not.

I only saw Manhunt, Postal, GTA, and 50 Cent; all games I'm not interested in the slightest in buying. As long as it doesn't get in the way with my 13-year old self, Reach, and the fact that I live in California. My parents have been totally fine with getting violent video games, as long as my grades stay as high as they are (even though it's only middle school and the workload is ridiculously small). Parents should be able to decide for themselves what is right for their children before the media decides picking on alcohol and drugs. But those haven't been doing as much harm as videogames, right? Remember kids, say no to drugs! And videogames. (because really, what videogame isn't a little violent these days?

Also, the player has the right to decide what to do in a game. If some little shit wants to shoot a woman in a videogame, it's his own problem and not the videogame's fault. But some games, like Manhunt, for instance, make you kill others for entertainment in gruesome ways as part of the game. If a child picks up a copy of Manhunt(with his parents permission) that's his own messed up mind that makes him do that.

Take the Tranquility Lane sim in Fallout 3, for instance. Sure, you're told to kill everyone in the end, but you can choose not to from the start and activate the failsave, "saving" the residents of Tranquility Lane.

I have a wonderful solution for this. Lets have a campaign so we can beat the stupid out of these twits!!

You know what we have to do? Take Billboards and put in the largest most obnoxious print we have put....
"M" means Mature rating as in you little whinny brat should not be playing this shit because it has Blood, Bullets, and Tits!! So stop being complete and total wankers and look at the rating on the back of the box!! GOD!!

We have should also have a teli commercial that is as annoying as that "head on" commercial.

"M rated game. Has Blood bullets and Tits"
"M rated game. Has Blood bullets and Tits"
"M rated game. Has Blood bullets and Tits"
"M rated game. Has Blood bullets and Tits"
"Do you Understand Now Dammit!!!"

I agree on everything.
[sub] Except the last part! I'm catholic. [/sub]

Anyway, I'm sick of the lazy parents who can't teach their own kids how to follow the rules.

News like this doesn't surprise me anymore, but damn is it ever depressing being continually reminded how astronomically stupid people are.

News flash to parents! Don't want your children playing "ultr-aviolent video games"? Don't buy them!

Seriously, this isn't hard.
Even if you personally don't let your kids buy violent videogames, a lot of other parents do simply because of their own ignorance. Here in the UK BBFC ratings are enforced by law and there is absolutely no problem what-so-ever. If I was an American answering this questionnaire, then I would have said I was worried about children buying these games, not my own but others who have less knowledgeable parents!

Here's an idea. Stop buying violent games for your kids then. Problem solved! I'm in agreement with them, that it should be tougher for kids, but for shits sake, don't make it hard on the adults too.

Given the ESRB rating, Halo: Reach is practically "T for teen" now. Starcraft and Uncharted 1 and 2(Both T games) have "worse" ratings.

ugh I have officially given up on humanity were are doomed as a species...

and we cant blame it all on the parents some do take away games from kids just people see games as a media that is to interactive and so people get more involved in the story but then things like gore help draw us in if u was playing manhunt as its the morons way out of saying games are to violent if people bleed flowers and happiness it would be even worse people would see it as an abomination of horribleness. Also i cant be certain of this but i think there was a child who jumped of a tree and on to another kids head and killed him( or seriously hurt him) coping Mario where as from a normal stand point Mario isn't a game to be played by teens only people have to remember that kids are stupid and impressionable and if they don't copy stupid acts from games then they will go to TV and films for retarded things to do and if that happens then what im sorry that whole freedom things was a lie we will be controlling the media now to spread happiness and love... until kids get on you tube of course then things get wild
