Personally, at least int Sony's case, I don't see a reason to release a new system anytime soon.

Heck, even the 360 - should be able to last at least another 2-5 years I think.

With the Wii I see it getting replaced sometime in 2012 or 2013.
Nintendo really NEEDS to do this so they can make a "proper" system with HDMI, harddrive, and online.

Nintendo - 2012 Holiday
Microsoft - 2013/14 Holiday
Sony - 2014 Fall/Holiday

Nintendo tricked me a bit by not revealing it last year at E3. (The 3DS made it make sense.) But it only made since to me then, that it would be this year because of all of the IPs and 3DS last year.

Microsoft is already letting some of the cats out of the bag so to speak. But I don't think Sony is worried about following suit too much which I agree with. I could even see Sony holding off until fall of 2015.

2016 at the earliest i think. Remember how much Sony was loosing on the PS3 when it came out? And the xBox while not so bad was the same too, developing consoles is an expensive business and as the hardware is new or modified most of the time then the cost of production is also massive, until you can optimize the manufacturing process and can benefit form economics of scale.
No one has that kinda money to pour into developing a new console at the moment..it's gonna take a while before the big companies can convince the accountants that they can take on the financial risk and that the benefits of making a new console out weigh just making a Kineck 2.0 or a Move Mk2 or something.

I think we may already have the next-gen here if you think about it in PC terms ... we have OnLive now, anything from low-end to high-end PCs can play games in their full quality.
