I'm going to get this out of the way, 9 is not directed by Tim Burton. It's co-produced by Tim Burton and the actual director, Shane Acker, is a student of Tim Burton, but the story was not created by Tim Burton. Now that we have THAT out of the way.
I just saw this yesterday, and I've heard since a lot of people complaining that it's a "Terminator with finger puppets" rip-off. But I didn't really get that. Is it a Terminator rip-off because it's about robots during the apocolypse? Well golly, that hasn't been done a thousand times before has it? Even before Terminator was ever made? I personally thought it was very well done. Not the most original piece in the world, but what is? People are saying District 9 is the most original movie ever and really all District 9 does is take everything that's already been done and put it in a melting pot, so how is 9 not original in the same sense? And I just now realized how many 9's are in theaters right now.
But since this movie has been out a couple dies and received enough hype for plenty of people to see it, I wanted to see what the typical unpaid movie-goer thinks about it. I personally loved it. It was short so it didn't seem pretentious. My main problem was the dialogue and the stupidity of the main hero but I can get over that because of how awesome so many of the other characters were.
