I'm going to get this out of the way, 9 is not directed by Tim Burton. It's co-produced by Tim Burton and the actual director, Shane Acker, is a student of Tim Burton, but the story was not created by Tim Burton. Now that we have THAT out of the way.

I just saw this yesterday, and I've heard since a lot of people complaining that it's a "Terminator with finger puppets" rip-off. But I didn't really get that. Is it a Terminator rip-off because it's about robots during the apocolypse? Well golly, that hasn't been done a thousand times before has it? Even before Terminator was ever made? I personally thought it was very well done. Not the most original piece in the world, but what is? People are saying District 9 is the most original movie ever and really all District 9 does is take everything that's already been done and put it in a melting pot, so how is 9 not original in the same sense? And I just now realized how many 9's are in theaters right now.

But since this movie has been out a couple dies and received enough hype for plenty of people to see it, I wanted to see what the typical unpaid movie-goer thinks about it. I personally loved it. It was short so it didn't seem pretentious. My main problem was the dialogue and the stupidity of the main hero but I can get over that because of how awesome so many of the other characters were. Like 7.

I'm looking forward to 9, it looks interesting. I know what you mean about the misconception that Tim Burton is the director - and it took me a while to realise that he's not. Right after I'd realised that this film, "9", and "District 9" are two ENTIRELY different movies. :D

I like stop-animation, and if the blokes been taught by Tim Burton, it can't be too bad can it?

I'm interested in seeing it... but has anyone else noticed the weird pattern this year? There are three movies coming out this year with the number 9.

9: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472033/
Nine: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0875034/
District 9: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/

It confuses me o_O

EDIT:

It's not stop-animation, it's CGI, and Tim Burton didn't teach him anything. The movie is based off of a short he made a few years ago, before Burton even took an interest.

The Nightmare Before Christmas was also not written or directed by Tim Burton. On topic: I think I agree with most critics, the film is visually incredibly, but falls apart story wise. I got bored half-way through it. The voice acting is good, and the visuals are, again, AMAZING, but the story is so trite and cliched taht it fails to hold the entire film together.

It isn't stop motion, 9 is entirly CG'd and don't get me started on how much Tim Burton sucks. EDIT: Ninja'd

Shame about the stop-motion thing, I prefer it to CG. And about Tim Burton, you can't tell me that you didn't like Sleepy Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow was okay, nothing great. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was horrible, Ed Wood was good, Mars Attacks is amazing and I do like Edward Scissor Hands. Every other film hes made I could do without, hes a one note director, relying on ignorant teenagers with no personalities to pay his bills.

this sounds suspiciously like a fanboy rant.
What? The Burton/Acker thing? Not so much a fanGIRL rant as it is a "Omigosh, please stop". I like giving credit where credit is due. It would be a fangirl rant if I were telling people to stop mix the two up and then bashed 9 about how terrible it is to try and convince people that "It can't be Burton because it sucks!" That would be more fan-ish.

This is just an OCD rant.
