What, don't you know it happens all the time. Fox news said so. /sarcasm.

I see no possible way they can legitimately blame video games for this one. And yet the media continues to shock and disappoint me. Why do I keep hoping they can actually do an unbiased job for once?

It's just the progression of scapegoating. This is the most profound scapegoating I've ever come across, though.

Yes, because suicide via hanging is a idea that it regularly implemented in popular video games.

this makes no sense.Video games are not to blame because (if anything)violence causes more violence. Some people might say how "hanging yourself is violent" but if he was really violent he would shoot himself not kill himself in a pssive agressive way.The only reason their blaming it on video games is because they are old geezers who know nothing about what video games do to the child's mind

American media like all media just likes to scare people and force people against something....... well actually media writes stories about things that will be discussed. Which we are doing now so this story has worked.

As for the circumsatnces. Well videogames are a possibility but that kid could have killed himself for a boat load of reasons. It's difficult to decipher a motive for suicide, it's not like a human mind leves evidence that points to something. The poor sod was probably being bullied and no on listened to him.

So... violent video games at an early age cause you to ask a teach to go to a bathroom, and to hang yourself? It just sounds ridiculous.

Seems to me that violent media would more likly cause him to kill someone else, not himself. Maybe his problem was watching too much of the evening news. That's always full of depressing stories of how the world will end because of "global warming" or "economic breakdown" or something. Of corse maybe something just snapped in his head without any outside influence.

gee don't blame games , blame the media ... kids are brainwashed into thinkiing violence and disrespect are acceptable behavior
I always thought video games actually were a medium. Thanks for teaching me differently.

OT: I don't know. Of course every gamer in the world jumps right at that calling bullshit all over the place, because it's hard to imagine there is any connection at all. But I don't know, nobody really does. But I can tell so much:

A 9 year old wouldn't even fully understand the concept of suicide, and for someone so young to do that he must have been either heavily influenced or had a chemical imbalance in his head. Most likely a mixture of both. There is no reason why a video game could not induce this influence. Leave the Doctor alone, he is a Doctor for a fucking reason.
This doesn't sound stupid to me. Imaginable, at the very least.

This is stupid to the point that I don't even feel sympathy for the people involved anymore.

I like that. It's always easier to blame games rather than suggest the possibility of shit parents/relatives. I think that if a 9 year old was actually able to have access to violent videogames in order to be influenced by them, then the parents are the one to blame.
On a side note, how does a game make people want to commit suicide? Was this kid forced to play Rogue Warrior for 12 hours?

Is there really any way to pinpoint vague reasons someone to kill themselves over? I can only imagine pinpointing specific reasons like "I was bullied", "My wife died", "All my money is gone" etc.

"Video-Games And The-Big-Greedy-Government-Who-Steal-Our-Taxes Are To Blame For This!
I'm Going to Write A Long-Winded And Evidence-less Letter To The Editor About This Then I'm Going to Complain On Talk-Back Radio And Tell Everyone How Video-Games And The-Big-Greedy-Government-Who-Steal-Our-Taxes Are To Blame For Children Hanging Themselves In Bathrooms."
Etc.

That's exactly the type of person who believes this crap.
Is there a game which rewards you for hanging yourself? Is there any game where people hang themselves? Is there any game which rewards suicide? It seems more like a movie thing, IMO. Of course, the kid probably had some mental instability like depression, so it's impossible to point the finger at anyone. Except maybe the games-hating media. :p

The other factor is that younger and younger children are exposed to very violent videogames with content that I would shudder to have an adult watch on a regular basis.

We just covered, a couple days ago, the story that children are watching as much as 52 hours a week of TV and sitting in front of a screen. A lot of that content is not uplifting and it's not teaching our children how to handle problems and feelings.

These statements came moments after the Doctor cautioned that we "don't want to blame and cast dispersions" at what role the boy's family may have played in the tragedy.
This person is retarded. Why is it always TV and video games that get the blame instead of lazy fucking parents that don't raise their children properly, or even more likely, bullying and depression? Since when has TV ever been an appropriate way to teach children how to deal with their problems and feelings?

Wait, a video game made a kid hang himself!? Unlikely.
Now if they said, video games made a kid pick up a missile launcher, which he then fired too close to a wall, causing the missile to explode at point blank range, killing him instantly, then yes, it is a possibility. But as it stands, no, we should blame Marylin Manson instead.
Dear god, dont go againt manson, he actuall yis one of the only celebs that has the right idea about ..... im going to say teen violence, for lack of a better term...

I've not seen a single video game promote suicide... except that one where you summon ghosts by commiting suicide, but it's like one game.

it is a young girl, and if you could see a larger version you could also see that parts of her skin has fallen off, its really quite cool.
