Well, if that percentage of americans don't want to do something about it, it's really their fault when they have a bad standard of living. I'd guess education is the best route, but not just of children of entire families which can be extremely hard.

I have a metabolism that allows me to eat twice as much as an average person, rarely exercise, and still be moderately underweight. If this is determined by genes, I need to pass this gene down. Get me women, I have to save America from being fat.

Anyway, I don't doubt it. And I fear it, because I can barely get through the hallways in my school without being crushed between two normal sized people as it is. I'd hate to imagine trying get from orchestra to calculus with a bunch of fat people.
