Just think, with public healthcare how much it will cost to treat all those fatties who get diabetes because they REFUSE TO WALK ANYWHERE AND PUT DOWN THE FORK.

Number 1 reason why public healthcare aint all it's cracked up to be .... fatties costing me tax money because they cause more physical damage to themselves than smoking a 25 pack of cigarettes a day.

And why the hell should I have to pay full fare on plane tickets when people twice my weight pay the same amount? They should pay for 'extra baggage', reducing the cost for me and my ticket. I propse that all flight tickets be 'Pay as you Weigh'

Tolerance, my friend. Tolerance.

I am tolerant. Somebody makes a mistake, I expect them to correct it. If they correct it, water under the bridge ... as long as they don't do it again.

Doctor tells a guy "lose some weight" .... guy comes back to doctor "You've gained more, you must lose weight!" .... that's it.... you've been warned. Failure to commit to a weightloss program should result in termination of healthcare prividledges.

If they haven't got the will to change their lifestyle after their doctor tells them two or three times, they are never going to change.

It's not a matter of tolerance, it's a matter of social preservation and responsibility. I believe in public healthcare, but I also believe that it can only work best if people take responsibility to keep themselves healthy so that everybody gets free and equal treatment.

And before people say 'that's cruel' it's the same system we have concerning organ transplantation ... if you have proven yourself to be ill suited to receive an organ due to your activities of self destruction, then you don't get an organ which could be allocated to someone in the same situation but who have proven themselves as a worthy recipient.

Yeah, well, it's not always easy to lose weight, and most fat/obese people are already aware of their problem, or so I believe. But I don't think those people are less worthy of health care. Still, treating heart attacks and other weight related injuries cost a lot of money, and it's obvious that health care costs would be drastically decreased in a less overweight country.

I don't know, there's no easy way. With stuff like McDonald's being as popular as it is, and people only sitting around at home watching TV, it's strange 90% aren't overweight already.

I wouldn't know .... but it's not like one day you're skinny with low cholesterol, mid range BMI and low blood pressure --- to suddenly being fat. It's not like the flu where you feel fine one day, then the next morning *BANG* sniffles and fever.

In my home country, medical services to fight obesity are pretty much FREE. Free ... or medicare surcharged (so you basically get refunded all your money ANYWAYS).

And they should be free ... but people are either;

A: Not using them, or, B: Not listening/adhering to the advice provided.

Oh, and I agree with you on Macdonald's comment. These (as in most fast food outlets) places should be torched. If they represent a temptation to eat crappy food, then remove the temptation ... like one would excise a cancerous mole on the body.

Australia has a HUGE obesity crisis. According to various 'thinktank' institutes looking at Medicare system, it's unlikely that public healthcare as it is known today will be a reality in the future.

no.1 reason? Obesity in kids .... kids of all people who should beable to fight off obesity better than any adult. Diabetes and other weight related diseases will become rampant, and so will the medical costs in order to treat it.

So you have to ask the question ... is it fair that EVERYONE suffers (through taxes or lack of healthcare) because people are obese? Or is it fairer to just say that obese people have to pay more to be treated?

I'm going for the latter ... charge obese people more.

Nowadays Department of Child Services (DOCS for short) can actually charge (through state police investigation) parents with 'Child Abuse' for having fat children. Best thing to ever happen in the fight against future medical problems.

Parents who feed their kids nothing but junkfood can lose custody of their children now. One small victory for Rational social behaviour amidst a sea of failures,

Stop feeding americans simple, since when was being fit a bad thing, since when did people look at sport, excersise or a competitive nature as a bad thing, kill the fattys is what I say.

Or deny them health care so they kill themselves or just stop feeding the piggy gits.

I'm a hardcore raver & Pro Gamer and I'm fit and healthy and LOVING it. because you get the ladies you get the sex life you get the respect and you look and feel good.

Fat people on there other hand are wallowing in their own self hatred, some break this cycle by making that transition into acceptance and these types of people have given up on life and should be....dot dot dot....you catch my drift

Fat Parents Breed Fat Children, they pass on their insecurity and eating habits. It's sad but true. Just like Racist, Sexist's or anyone else with a strong negative outlook on life these people should not be allowed to breed. Adoption is Key here.
