Personally I find this stupid. Being Jewish, my grandma told me plenty of stories of her escape and the family members that our family lost to the Nazis though putting a 91 year old in jail for it? I don't agree. Personally whats done is done and everyone needs to move on from it. I hope this sentence gets thrown out and they let the guy go, looks like hes barely pulling through as is. Don't think he would survive the 5 years in jail.

What do you guys think? Is it time to forgive what was done and move on? Most of the Nazis are gonna be dead soon anyways.

No, he did the crime, so he deserves the time. 'nuff said.

Your mother was murdered yesterday along with 27,899 others. But it was all in the past, so let it go..

Yeah he'll be dead soon. May as well take any enjoyment he gets out of his life, the chap's a c*nt if you'll excuse the language. I hope he rots there. "Whats done is done" is no reason to ignore mass murder.

This is insane, he was a PoW, forced by the germans to work as a guard, and now he's being held responsible for all those deaths?

At this point, catching the remaining Nazis left alive seems to be more of a warning. "If you are like this man, we will hunt you down to the day you die,"

That said, I am still quite glad they got the bastard.

If they took this long to find and try the guy, he should get off. I mean, here we are, 70 years later, and the guy probably has a year or two left. Don't burden the taxpayers with the expense of the guy's case, medical treatment, room, food, drink, nd whatever else they provide in prison, should he get convicted. I'm sure that the guy still has nightmares from time to time about what he did. The thing that a lot of people don't realize is that many of them didn't enjoy doing what they did. They just wanted to keep food in their families stomachs and their family out of the prisons that everyone was being sent to.

Yeah...about that. Not many people actually execute people with a bullet to the brain. Not legally anyway. You're also overlooking the cost of appeals, those courts cases, th lawer, the opposing lawyer, the jury, the judge, the court reporter, the stenographer, and so forth and so on. Executing someone isn't cheap, fast, or easy as far as the legal system is concerned.

Don't believe me? Look it up. Sadly, my research paper on the death penalty is long since gone, and so are my sources.

I believe you, and have looked at the stats myself, but notice I didn't mention a trial or appeal... just sayin.

You do realize that you'd be doing the same thing that he's accused of, right? Ending the life of a person without trial.

Of course, really just wishful thinking on my part

Yes.

Because every god damned person who was called a "Nazi" was an evil bastard. He couldn't have possibly been forced into service.

/sarcasm

You really think he isn't plagued every night by the faces of the people he was forced to kill? He probably isn't some sociopath, so I doubt he's living his life like he did nothing wrong.

This is lunacy. He's 91 years old. Let him spend the last few years of his life in peace. Not very likely now, though, as every damn person he's ever met will probably treat him like dirt now.

I saw this, and I'm pretty angry at it. He was convicted to aiding the death 30,000 people (yes, 30,000 as in 30,000), but no evidence ever appeared he did anything anything more than pick his nose.

Plus, he was a Soviet POW who was forced to sign up. And only because he was given the title "Nazi" is he going to spend the rest of his life in jail.

To be fair its one thing to let go of a crime from recent times and its another completely to do so 70 years later. By this point no one is benefitting from his imprisonment. Of the few Jews alive still able to remember the horrible events I doubt even they think a 91 year old deserves this. It might as well be a death sentence putting him in jail. Doing this now does nothing and can barely be considered "justice".

Let him live the rest of his life knowing what he's done and regretting.

Upon reading the article, it's clear that he should not even be in this situation.

There isn't even any proof of his guilt. The entire case is built on an id card that might be fake anyway. Even if it's not fake, there's no proof that he was directly responsible for anything.

This case wouldn't stand up in US courts, and for good reason.

He was forced to do it. If he didn't he would be shot. He is going to die soon, and might as well enjoy his last few years. But, you wouldn't be very happy if you were sentenced to life for something that you were forced to do 70 years ago (I think)
