who else is sick of games doing this for a stupid achievement/trophy...
i personally have spent days at a time looking for all those stupid feathers on assassin's creed II, those god-for-saken blast shards from infamous, and (just for fun)the 120 stars on Super Mario Galaxy

what games have Pissed you off with this stupid game design....

Yeah, those grind ones are a *****.

I would say Gears of War and Team Fortress 2 are the biggest offenders.

1,000,000 heal points for a medic... yeah no.

And the Gears ones basically turned the multiplayer into "let me get the weapon for the achievement you assholes!".

i know but i just do it to finish the whole game also assassin creed 2 makes you collect 30 codex pages just to continue the game

the feathers are for a trophy/achievment which is what i mean...

Well if you think the trophy/achievement is stupid, then why bother collecting them at all?
But, yes I do hate this whole collecting thing in games now. "Go collect 100 feathers!" What purpose does this have on the story? Do I get anything special for it? No, just an achievement saying I wasted hours searching for feathers...

I play the game through once or twice and if I don't get everything, I don't care. Apparently it wasn't important if i can finish the game without it. Make those things something that ties in with the story and doesn't take me an extra 5 hours to find each one and ill do it.

Im sick of "fluff" in games to extend the gameplay.

Now see, I like the achievements in TF2 where you have to get X of Y to get it, because those achievements in TF2 are just natural progression. In your example, if you play Medic enough you'll eventually get, and it's a good goal to shoot for, because you're constantly helping your teammates along the way.

But, otherwise, I agree with the dislike of them in other games, like "find 100 gum wrappers around the city". It's a bullshit achievement that they threw in to artificially inflate the games play time.

I say inFamous and it's bullshit Blast Shards, because a few of them wouldn't ping up on the map. One was hidden out on a peg in the water, which no one would ever see, and the other was at the top of the tallest building, but no one would know it was there unless they climbed all the way up and tried to ping it.

The worst for me are the pigeons in GTA4, which is why I didn't even try for that achievement.

It's annoying.

1) Shoot pigeon.
2) Run until wanted level calms down.
Rinse, repeat. Bleh. Not FUN!

I like them, gives me something to do when I have some time to kill, and if I don't I can just put the game aside for a bit. Nobody is making you collect achievements or trophies, so if you don't want to go around looking for stuff in games, don't. Although I will say that GTA IV made it quite shitty, they could have at least thrown in a silenced weapon that wouldn't alert the police.

Yes, they aren't forcing you, they're just waving a little flag saying "just a little bit farther!" Your argument is meaningless, no one forces us to play games >_>

I also find them somewhat tiring but on the flipside I like it when games give actual bonuses for getting achievements.

Your not required to get the achievements. If you don't want to, put the game away and do something else.
I agree. But some people's personalities are such where they just can't not get all of them.

There was a good article in one of the recent GameInformers about the uselessness of achievements and GamerScore.

Personally, I enjoy going for challenges/achievements/milestones if:
1) I enjoy the game
2) They aren't pointless cumulative stat counters(Wish you were doing something productive 100 times - 5G)
3) They're creative and challenging

Part of the problem is that game developers now feel like they have to add these things into games even if they aren't on the 360 or PS3. Why? If I've beaten the game and the only thing left are pointless boxes to check off that add a few points to an equally meaningless number tied to an internet account, I see no point.

At the end of the day they're voluntary, but it is somewhat bothersome to get 'most' but not all of the achievements...and the ones that you do need are senseless.

How about: "Rational Gamer - 1,000G: Beat the game, grew bored with it and moved on with life."
