Dresden Dolls and Humanwine. Although, if you don't like one you won't like the other.

believe it or not, in my school Radiohead is very under-appreciated, it's so good, but not a lot of people like them.

I like Reel Big Fish a whole lot. If you've already heard of them, I'm sorry. I'm a huge metal-head and the only bands I can think of are metal bands. Sorry buddy.

(But I like Turisas and Symphony X even though they're metal)

The band that I think is Ben Folds Five if you have ever heard of them post back.
Yeah, I've heard of them. I like Brick and Rock This *****...such a fun song. A band that I love that doesn't seem to have a lot of followers is Defiance Ohio. They are an amazing folk-punk band that posts their music for FREE on their website, so go check them out. It won't cost you a dime... I promise.

I LOVE Radiohead. Kid A has to be one of the best albums ever made. I even liked Hail to the Thief. They were popular for a while, but since they aquired their own label they don't get the promotions they deserve. Long live Thom!

Why do people insist on classifying death metal outside of metal itself?

If you like A Perfect Circle, look up Puscifer or Tool. Same vocalist. Different styles.

Both = underappreciated where I live.

Since this thread is about bands that are underappreciated I really don't see why we can't post metal bands. You didn't say that this was just a thread to expand your own library.

So, Necrophagist are underappreciated.
There, I said it.

Anyone heard of Steel Train? They're reasonably well known in my area, but not too much. And no, I'm not just nominating them because my cousin is in them, they're good.

Vanessa Mae awsome violinist if you can appreciate that sort of thing.
Love that type of music. Thanks.
No prob, if you like ambient stuff or minimalistic also worth checking out Sigur Rós (icelandic band pretty simmilar to Radiohead) Eluvium or Apex Twin.

Schubert is surprisingly unappreciated I think. His symphonies display a melodic brilliance that isn't present in other composers such as Beethoven or Mozart. They're simple yes, but easier to listen to than others when you have to concentrate to catch the nuances and subtle variations which makes them so brilliant.
As long as we're including Classical artists, I nominate Ludovico Einaudi. That guy is wonderful on the piano.

Yup, the OP specifically stated no metal bands, meaning classical is free reign!

Maybe the guy just dosen't like metal and just wants some new stuff in his library. I feel for that.

You might like the Scorched Earth Orchestra. They play symphonic covers of other artists adding an amazing twist to the original songs.

Here's one of my favorites.

Ok, it seems like you have some similar likes as I do, so...
Bjork
Tom Waits(start with his 'Real Gone' album)also, his uniqueness begins with the album "swordfishtrombones"
