Here's my brilliant idea for an MMO subscription model that is both better than 15 dollars a month and Free2Play + micropayments. Tell me what you think.
15 dollars buys the player one month of unlimited play -or- 20 hours of playtime. Whichever is the the bigger number. So a hardcore player can pay his 15 bucks and play 100 hours a month and the next month he pays another 15 bucks and plays another 100 hours. But, say he only has time to play 5 hours the next month, well no biggie, the 15 remaining hours roll over into the next month so he won't have to pay for that month until his 15 hours from the last month are over.
It's also great for less hardcore gamers, who might only want to play their MMO for 100 hours a year. Now instead of paying 180 a year, he would only have to pay 60 bucks a year.
This is better for the consumer (obviously) but also the developer, because now consumers who didn't want to pay because they feared they wouldn't play enough that month to make it worth it, would now be paying customers.
