Just saw this [http://gematsu.com/2011/08/borderlands-2-detailed-in-game-informer] and was thinking that I should link it.
What are your thoughts on this new information. Personally I'm pretty excited, although a bit sad that I can't play as Mordecai again.

Personally? there's not much you can do after borderlands and all its expansions except add a character creation system or 4-player split-screen, and they didn't

it seems more like an upgrade than an outright sequel for now, but i'll wait and see.

EDIT: I say you can't add much to borderlands because it had enough ideas packed into it that making a sequel would require it to jump the shark, and not in a good way

Sounds neat, I might not pick it up straight away but I did really like the first game so I'll check it out at some point :D

Both excited and a bit terrified. I understand that the vehicles was pretty important in Borderlands, but I really hope that they won't add any vehicle quests that involve killing people in vehicles with... the vehicle(say it five times fast!).
I liked driving around, but the vehicle quest that you get after leaving the first big area was almost impossible for me solo. Perhaps others found a way to get around this. I died over and over while slowly chipping at their health.

Well you could always add, you know, an actual story. Which seems to be what they're doing.
well it didn't need a story. it was just a big lootfest and it did that very well. it was so tightly put together that i can't think of anything else to add to it except what i mentioned.

maybe if it was more of the same and came at a discounted price point it would be acceptable, but as far as i can see there isn't much you can add and/or change without comprimising what borderlands already is, which is a loot-based grind-a-thon, which it seems people were already happy with (judging by the sales)

What ?
All it had was
"shoot enemies, to get guns to kil lthem fater, to get more guns to kill them faster, to get more guns..."

It had 2 ideas, shooting and grinding. Both sucked.
if they both sucked then just don't play the game. borderlands is inherently JUST those 2 ideas, and changing them would be like making an elder scrolls game set in linear corridors. if borderlands changes those 2 things then it's not borderlands. what you're asking for is a different game, and the fans don't want you to change it.

EDIT: Or it would be like saying Diablo or Torchlight suck because it's just "Kill enemies, get more money/better weapons to kill them faster to get more money/better weapons..."

I played the hell out of Borderlands and all of its DLC expansions and I'm still hungry for more. Bring on the sequel, I say.

If the think they can improve borderlands without perhaps considering that there isn't much to Improve.
my plan?
scrap the whole thing, start from scratch.
Make Co-op be Co-op. make every player level up the same amount, offer a small character customization screen so you don't have to be the guy stuck with the girl!
Classes would be a great idea

Make more definition to each class. Make the tanky character like a tank!
Make a class who sucks with guns, but can use abilities instead!
Make the sniper's Falcon controllable so he can scout with it
Make a medic class, one who can heal and revive faster!
make Dynamic bosses appear randomly and not at fixed points in the story

and for the love of god, kill that annoying robot!
YES I KNOW YOU ARE DANCING, SHUT UP NOW!

I like that they're giving the gun manufacturers more personality than just a name and general stat consistency.

It seems they're making the abilities more interesting too.

And all new guns? Color me excited, since the gun ideas for the original were pretty cool. I can't wait to see what they come up with this time

Whether it needed a story or not is irrelevant, as many people would have liked to see a story in it, and many others still expected a story to be in the game when they bought it. You don't have to compromise the loot grind-esque aspects of the game to add that, you just have to give a the player a reason for grinding it in the first place. An ultimate purpose, if you will, supplemented by smaller goals leading up to it.

Even Diablo and Torchlight have stories, yet still have plenty of the loot grindy aspect in them.
i think, when dealing with a shooter centered around greedy mercenaries who just want to earn money and shoot things, there's really not much you can do in the story department for them. If there WERE to be a story, something FAR bigger than the protagonists needs to be implemented, and something personal to the protagonists (that the player could somewhat sympathize with) would be well and good as well.

revenge is always a good bet in that case. You arrive on pandora, get your ass kicked by Jason Voorhees, and you want to go bring down his big, bad empire (sort of the Crackdown approach. it was compelling because it involved killing the shit out of criminals)

As long as the story is better, I'd be happy.

Or if not more epic, at least more straight-up hilarious like General Knoxx's DLC. That was priceless hilarity.

Aww, the old characters not being playable makes me sad. I was hoping they were going to have the original four as well as new people.
Guess you can't have everything. I'm sure the rest of the game will make up for the characters. Even though this new guy doesn't particularly appeal to me. Dual wielding in Borderlands sounds frustratingly inaccurate.

I'm really looking forward to this game. :3 I'm going to miss my Lilith/Dahlia though. They better have an awesome chick to replace her with.

Sounds good, i liek what im hearing and look forward to more info!

The only thing i ask of them is to sort out hacking and weapon modding. It destroyed he fairplay in Borderlands. Also, a new character similair to that of the siren!
