A Bonus Quiz About The Oscars

Do you know enough about The Academy Awards to earn a statuette of your own?

The Academy Awards, or The Oscars as they're known colloquially, take place this Sunday, March 7th, but things are a little different this year. For the first time ever, ten films have been nominated for Best Picture, and the new voting process could be setting the stage for a few surprises.

The Escapist wants to make sure you're properly prepared for the event. MovieBob's special report [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/1484-Special-The-Academy-Awards] will fill you in on the Best Picture changes and give you an edge in your office Oscar pool, while this quiz will test your Oscar smarts. Score 100%, and you'll take home a little gold man of your own...well, the badge version, anyway.

And now...the envelope, please!

Pretty sure there's a mistake in this quiz. In the question about Judi Dench and Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwyneth should be replaced with Cate Blanchett.

Since i can't go back to look at the question, i remember it being "What do these two actress have in common?" Answer - "they were both nominated for playing the same character". Judi Dench played Queen Elizabeth in Shakespeare in Love and Cate Blanchett played Queen Elizabeth in the titular "Elizabeth". Both released the same year.

Now, if that wasn't the right question, then everything i've just said it null and void and i should go sit in a corner for a while.

I might've misread it too. I just figured when it said Judi Dench and Gwyneth Paltrow, that they meant same movie. :p

That might be so, but dual nominations/wins for a single movie happen often enough to not be that special. Now, multiple nominations in the same year for the same character (even though in different movies) is very rare and might never have happened before or since.

Oh, believe me, I know that. But that's what was interesting about those two in particular. I stopped reading at "the same" so I don't know what the answer actually read as. :p

60% first run through. 6 tries total to hit 100% (most nominations & back-to-back nominations hung me up.) Currently ranked 15th...yay?

Badge'll be nice & shiny, though! :D

Shiny new badge. Woo. Youngest ever Oscar winner had me confused for a bit. Was 7th when I got 100%... probably slipping a fair bit now though...

About half way through I thought "Yeah I'm not doing to bad" by the end 3/10.

Should have watched that video beforehand. Would have helped out a bit. Took me three tries to get a 100%. That doesn't seem too bad but considering I have a total of 15 minutes from sitting there thinking about each question for a long time it's pretty bad.

Oh well. I have a shiny new badge. Yay for badges! I like shiny things.

You're right. Since the intended answer is "They were both nominated for playing the same character", the question should be changed to Judi Dench & Cate Blanchett.

20%...wow, I used to be a Film student too. Ahh well, not that I cared much about the Oscars in the first place.
