A zombie game where you can only survive by running up to them and give a loving, warm hug.

Or a wedgy.

This would make the ultimate zombie game.

I like it, i would add in some bioshock 'virus gives you powers' stuff, but that kinda ruins the horror element. It's scary fighting a zombie horde and a security force with guns, not scary when you have a arm that fires corrosive acid. no matter how awesome that would be.

Sounds brilliantly done, especially if it would pull off some sort of pikmin style looming, long-term time limit, giving you a constant sense of pressure to go with the survival horror.

By 'expose them', you mean kill them all and not call the New York Times from a company telephone, right? And expose them for what? It seems the public is well aware of this.
Actually, the fact that people are being turned into zombies is a secret.
I knew that I should have cleared that up. I told myself to, but then I didn't.

As for calling the NYT, well, not every plot is perfect. But these people horribly wronged you, and wouldn't you want to expose them in some big way?
I'd be pretty satisfied with just shooting them.

So the people are turned to zombies and are used for entertainment, but no one can tell that they're zombies?

sounds kinda like what you'd get if you put your standard zombie movie, mixed with "The Running Man", mixed with the concept of "Fangus Clot" which doesn't sound too bad, now that I think about it.
But the concept is only so much of a game. What will this game be? The usual shooter, like we'd expect, or a Mass Effect kinda thing, where we get to decide gender and the like. And what of the atmosphere, scary, campy (like Dead Rising") or actiony. Not to mention, the only thing that separates games like Bioshock and Damnation is that one is handled well while the other isn't. None the less it sounds pretty good. If you do this right, it could end up being the next dead rising, a zombie game that's very clever about the zombie concept.

Can I add something to it. Like in RE4, the main character/dead rising, whoever he or she is, gets infected. Now in those games, infection doesn't really have any consequences in-game. Might I suggest that you do something like Eternal Darkness' sanity meter, in that the main character starts hullicinating, due to further infection from the zombie virus. Like, if you get bitten, your "sanity meter" goes down and you start hullucinating

If you ask me, anything with zombies is gold. However this could work out really really well. I can see it working as a first-person adventure game with stealth and combat elements.
What is the main character like and what is he in prison for? Something big and nasty like murder? Or something small and generic like illegally downloading music? Or maybe it's just not important. Maybe this guy is sort of nasty but knows sense when he sees it or maybe he's not a bad chap. I want to know.

It would be really really awesome if there were zombie minigames based on the games the public play in that world.

Am I the only one that has seen a film or read a book about something almost identical to this?

It is fucking with my head because I can't think of it at the moment. When I get home from work tomorrow I might scan around and see if I can find it.

i could pick holes in the story til it looks lyk swiss cheese but i reckon this is a pretty good idea. just one small suggestion. it's hard to root for a protaganist in their a criminal, if you were framed or wrongly convicted then it would probably be better. still this is a pretty great idea

Thanks for the support!
To clear things up:

zombflux - Yes, we all know they are zombies, but no one knows where they coming from, except for ZedCo.

HG131 - I love the half-life series and anything Valve pumps out, and I also believe in their trust in immersion with First-Person games. If this ever could be a game, First-Person is definately the way to go

vianyte - He was convicted of a crime he didn't commit, which adds to the view I want on corruption.

theultimateend - I haven't read a story or seen a film similar to this story yet, but that doesn't mean there aren't any!
