It's basically a hollow victory on the DRM-boycotter's part. We've managed to push them back from the unforgivable SecuROM DRM to the simply rather distasteful SecuROM DRM PC gamers have grudgingly begun to accept.
For those who still wish to boycott SecuROM and StarForce-using games, you'll need to keep doing so. Continue complaining, at least it might matter once EA tries to sneak this 10-day disaster into our lives via the low-end games.
But a victory is a victory. I'll take it while I can.
I have to say that I liked how they mentioned the guys in the armed forces being one of the reasons behind the backpedal. My impassioned letter to Bioware corporate (via "contact us") asked them to consider the fact that many gamers work in the military and are lucky to get online once a month, so I'd like to think I was part of that.
