i believe this thing has been put up once and that was maybe a month ago so i believe it should be brought up.

I have been reading countless things about what is overrated, too much hype, and such. And everytime halo 3 is the most talked about.

My point is that Halo series is voted by most magazines, websites, and such to be on the top 3 best games ever. 1 is generally Zeld Ocarina of Time. 2 is generally Pacman/Tetris. I am just thinking is it because halo was a great game (i am not a fanboy). Because it seems like people hate it because it was so popular and now more and more people are hating it because other people hate it.

So my question to you is:
Is it now a fad to hate Halo 3? Or any halo series?

I liked it, apart from the campaign being a bit short (longer than Halo 2 though, fortunately). However, I agree there were a few bad points. Overall though, it's a good game, so I agree it is pretty much just a fad, as many people I've seen and spoken to who 'hate' it have actually said they haven't even played it. It's like Microsoft or Twilight, people jump on the hate wagon because it's 'cool' to hate something.

Personally I prefer Halo 3 to Half-life 2 though I gotta admit Halo 3 (and for much that matter Halo 2) could never live up to the original Halo.

you understand what i mean though right?
I do. Just saying its not just Halo 3, or cause Halo 3 is big and shit.

Its was always a fad to hate Halo since it came out.

I truthfully don't think it's that great of a game to be called in the top three hell it didn't change much for me the best games changed how games are and that's why they're the best

I can give one reason why the Halo franchise was mediocre. It was the franchise that actually reduced the arsenal of FPS players from the average of 6-unlimited weapons down to 2. If you have played Doom or other early FPS games weapons were very plentiful and players got to keep them all and decide which one they wanted to use in a situation. Halo took that away and even to this day most FPS games now only support players carrying two weapons instead of as many as they ran over.
that is the designers choice and i personally agree with it. I think that having a rocket launcher, sniper, shotgun, sword, all at the same time would be kinda cheap. im not saying your wrong, im just proving a valid point that contradicts the unlimited weapon thing.
Its just a matter of opinion.

People are very tribal about their gaming, and they love to argue and vent their opinions.

It's not really that suprising is it?

I don't think its just Halo 3, or the Halo franchise in general.

Lately I've been seeing more and more people hate what they see as mainstream just to appear indie/trendy/whatever. It happens a lot around where I'm from, though it's mostly people saying they hate the mainstream and then proceeding to buy brand name clothing, listen to mainstream music, and watch MTV. That's what I think anyways.

and a very valid point it is too.

I hate Halow because they made it uncool to have what I call the "magic pants" style of weapon holding were you can have every weapon

::Feels a bit of PC Elitism coming on...sorry, I have to do this::

Halo was possibly the first decently executed, popular FPS for a console since Goldeneye. And Halo was not half bad. The reason why it is hated is because its lauded as the greatest game of all time by a lot of people why havn't played the numerous FPS's on PC which were had done pretty much everything Halo was shooting for, only better (This is not to say Halo is bad, but rather Halo had its balance of strengths and weaknesses when compared to any other game on the PC, and there was no point where it was superior by a significant margin.) Halo probably fit amongst the crowd, not really shining anywhere, but being a decent springboard to consoles, people playing consoles finally got a real taste of a Genre that just naturally captivates the target audience, namely FPS. So they gave it a ton of praise, because people were finally getting there fix.

Admittedly, I can't stand shooters on consoles. For me, the loss in precision is analogous to pressing WASD with chopsticks instead of fingers, and it ruins the immersion for me. Best description I can give to Halo is, "Competent". Some advantages, like the hit point/shield system was new and different, some disadvantages like horribly repetitive level design. So there's just a matter of taste. Personally, I don't like Halo, but I can see its a decent game. The annoying bit is that some people have a meterstick to judge Halo, while most of the people praising it had never even seen the meter stick before.

If you were in a real life combat situation then you'd have limited capacity for weapons, at least, if you wanted any ammo as well. I could probably carry two pistols in holsters, one on each side, and a rifle in my arms, and possibly a rifle strapped to my back. However, that last rifle would be very awkward to pick up and use. Therefore, fewer weapons is actually more realistic, plus 6+ weapons could potentially be too much of a game breaker. For that reason, most people I know have actually said they prefer the weapon system in Halo than anything earlier.

On another note, when it comes to fads. Girls should really stop wearing leg warmers. they look stupid. I see really attractive girls in really cute outfits at clubs and parties, and then they've got their neon (insert rainbow colour here) leg warmers there to ruin how they look. Just a peeve i guess.

As for Halo, I dont hate it, I just don't understand the overwhelming godly praise this game is given. Its not bad, its just not as amazing as everyone says.
