Kinda but not really, I think FO has a better combat system albeit it is solely turn based.
There are also other problems with FO3 besides being a oblov knock off, everything is based on the main quest so skills, equipment ect are limited as they are geared to a 8-10 hour game not a 30 hour or more one this and vasts being poorly implemented made the game just an utter nightmare for me to play because like bioshock there is no balance or depth to it other than the shiny paint job......

I always thought Oblivion needed guns. Especially a flame thrower, which I got and am very happy for.

Can't understand why FO3 failed you.

Well if you liked the gameplay of oblivion you'll probably like fallout 3, since it's like an upgraded version of what we had in oblivion. Good thing is that it doesn't erase it's predecessor like many sequels do, I own both and still play oblivion.

I loved Fallout 3 and I am looking foward to Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout 1 and 2 was not made by Bethesda, but by a company that got shut down. Personally I liked what they did to Fallout 3 I also loved Oblivion. But Fallout 3 was to me more imersive than Oblivion. I very much disliked Fallout 1 and 2, they were not fun at all. I aggree with Mr. Grey.

with this game as with every other long running game series there will be some people who like the older and some people who like the newer, I myself liked FO3 but I've never played 1&2 and I can understand why some of the people who liked 1&2 where disappointed by FO3 because it wasn't the game they knew and loved.

Poor balance, no pacing, poor implementation of VATS and or equipment and or weapons and or skills.

Aside from all the stuff you got wrong switching to Fallout 3 from Oblivion just felt like you were playing Oblivion as a drunk archer (roll to hit). When you switched to Balder's gate from fallout you felt like you were playing a different game. "They're both point and click" is not the same as "they feel exactly the fucking same."
Please note this was not in the least serious, all the details I got wrong prove that I just didn't give a damn,I was just satiring how everyone gripes about Fallout 3 and N:V,and yet two other similar games both published by Bioware and that are both listed under Black isle studio, are slightly similar, and in my opinion Fallout 3 and Oblivion don't feel the "exactly the fucking same" although a flamethrower in cyrodiil would have been boss, they both have adequate differences enough to not feel the same.

Speaking as a non-fanboy of 1 & 2 (I've just started playing the first 2 games to get the back story) I refer to Fallout 3 as "Oblivion with guns" simply because well, they're very similar in gameplay and use the same engine.

It's not really knocking Fallout 3 since most people loved Oblivion (I preferred Morrowind myself)... but it is what it is.

fallout was released in 1997, Baldur´s Gate was released 1998. Fallout used the "Fallout engine" While Baldur´s gate used the "Infinity engine" (named after the RPG that Bioware worked on before Baldur´s gate called Battleground infinity but that is another story). Fallout was inspired by Interplays earlier game called "Wasteland" released in 1988. Wasteland included a lot of things that would be remade for Fallout (though the games are completely unrelated otherwise) for example you could find Power Armor in wasteland. Also the battle system in fallout was sort of a mix between turn based strategy and turn based RPG while Baldur´s Gates fighting system was like a more (Wayyyyy more) tactical version of Diablo with the ability to pause i the middle of the fight to issue commands to your party. Speaking about a party Fallout could be easly be finished with the player character only (i know that you can finish Baldur´s Gate with only the player character but that is hard) and the Party members could not be controlled by the player but in Baldur´s Gate the Party was way more important.

Also you could be a pornstar in Fallout 2 and thats one of the many reasons why Fallout 2 is better that Fallout 3.

I don't really think baldur's gate has all that much in common with fallout, actually. They feel very different.
