hey escapist, I need some assistance. You see, I RP regularly, and I have a tendency to torture my characters. Now, i need some good fates, as the title indicates, but there are some stipulations.

A) the character has to have enough presence of mind to understand what's happening to them. So nothing that would result in immediate insanity (eventual insanity is ok though)

B) The RP is a sci-fi and fantasy one, think of it as Mass Effect, but with tonnes of powerful magic. So you have a wide selection.

C) transformations and mind transfers and the like are okay, but try to limit anything permanent as it limits what else can be done to the character.

Thanks a lot escapist! ^^

One last note, if the punishment is a gender-specific one please be sure to mention it.

Burn someone so bad that they have 3rd degree burns all over their body! That would be pretty much crippling.

Trap them inside their own minds - some variant of schizophrenia could do wonderfully. It could start slow and slight, and slowly ramp up unto they go completely mad.

Give them the immortality and then chain them to the bottom of the ocean. Constant drowning!

Or cast them out into space, whichever.

Snap their spin but make them drink from the flask of eternal youth so that they can live as you do it over and over again

Tie them to a chair and have a girl dressed as superman rip their eyes out and then explain to them what will happen next, she tells him he will be forced to fight for his life, but first she cuts of his arm and hits him with a bat, then throw him into a crowded mall and gives him a bat and is told to defend himself against what he beleives are his opponents, but are actually just pedestrians, then when the cops get there they taze him and then he is incarserated for the rest of his life.

Give him alzheimer's. He slowly loses his ability to cope with his surroundings, all the while knowing that one day he will treat his friends and loved ones as strangers.

well...that's certaintly creative, but it hurts innocents which is kind of counter-productive. Nice try though!

Two possibilities:

1) You mentioned Sci-Fi with a heavy dose of magic. I would suggest jacking a person's mind into a medical computer that's filled with every possible amount of pain that could ever happen to a person and download that into the person's head. Results would probably be between a heavily shattered personality and being heavily shaken for the next few decades (Can we say nightmares and lost sleep?)

2) For a magical character, specifically, ignite the mana (if that's how your magic system works) while it's still in their blood stream. Alternatively, sever their tie with magic for a few days.

A. Freeze them in time in such a way that their minds would still be working at full capacity but everything else around them (including their bodies) is frozen. from their perspective, they'll be trapped for eternity.
B. Have some sort of space-time anomaly that causes time to pass hundreds/thousands of years outside for every second/minute passed inside. Bonus points for doing it where they could actually see everything aging into dust.

Baccano already did that... Technically, anyway.

Anyways, a fate worse than death? Life.[/angst]
