option 1: Trap them in a chair with their eyes pryed open and their mouths gagged or sewn shut. Then bring in one of their loved ones at a time and slowly start cutting them apart bit by bit. Tell them that they can make it all stop simply by saying stop it
Option 2: Make them "magically" burn for the rest of their life. Their skin and muscle would grow back but would then just burn away
Option 3: Place them in a room where if they leave before solving some impossible question/riddle but if they leave they will age by 20 years every min out of the room but if they cant solve it within 24 hours everyone they care about will die in a violent way. OH and while in the room every thought they make they receive a flesh wound

I was thinking that the Agony Booth from Star Trek's Mirror Universe seemed like quite an effective method of torture, and since you said that this RP world was Sci Fi based with heavy magic elements I thought you could have a spell that would imprison the victim in a magical field that would induce constant agony much like the Agony Booth. ...oh and it would remain active until the caster dispelled it too, so how ever the long the victim is tortured depends on how malevolent the torturer is feeling.
