Off the top of my head I can only think of Kirby's Epic Yarn, Mario Bros Wii or Mario Kart?

Get Rayman's Raving Rabbits. When I used to own it, I had these kids over and spend the night at my place. I didn't have too many kid friendly games at the time other than the Rabbits game, but they absolutely loved that. So she might, too.

Gunstar Heroes on the Virtual Console. Classic Sega game from Treasure.
Maybe Pikmin 2? Doesn't that have two player co-op?

I've heard that Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is a co-op, and Final Fantasy is usually heavily story-based. I've never played any of the Crystal Chronicles ones, but I think that there are 2 or 3 out now. I think that the Gamecube one requires GameBoy Advance(s) and connector cords to play, but I'm pretty sure that there's a Wii-specific one out, too.

Swap your wii for a Xbox and play gears of war 2, nothing cheers a mother up more than chainsawing a locust in half.

Or you could just play mario cart.

I know it isn't Co-op but my Mum always enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy so you could try playing that with her take turns at figuring out the levels or something like that.

Dont have a Wii, and it was many years since I played Gamecube - but isn't Mario Party kind of what you're looking for?
I only vaguely remember the game though, so sorry if it doesn't help.

I would have thought Mario Kart: Double Dash!! an excellent idea if your Mother isn't all that confident with games. Basically, if you've never played it before, its two guys in one kart. One's on the back throwing all the items while the other is driving. It requires, nay, demands co-operation and a close teamwork to be really good at because you can only do so well with good Driving and your almost definitely going to lose with only a good-strategist on the back. If your Mom isn't as confident enough Gamer to drive, then she can deal out red shell death in the back seat while you drive. She'll still get a good amount of satisfaction of playing a big, proper game without feeling too overwhelmed because you, as the Driver, will be doing most of the hard work. Her role is as vital as yours to win and I'm sure you'll enjoy that. Plus, the Purple Cadillac is pretty sweet looking. Maybe not to drive but still cool.

If she is confident in the ways of the joypad, go ahead and get something like New Super Mario Bros. Its just a fun little thing to knock back with. Yes, its been knocked as Mario Bros 3 with better graphics but its still fun and the co-operative thing is just as important, only much more difficult to pull off. For example, if either of you get stuck and don't feel up to doing a part of a level, another player can pick you up and carry you till your ready to continue. This is risky as both of your characters are now in the hands of one player. The one on top can't do a whole lot to help, giving a greater pressure on your Mario Skills. This is the same if one of the players simply enters a bubble. The whole level has to be restarted if the other guy dies.

Hope that helps. Hope you like Mario games cause that's what I got. I wasn't sure if you were into the Lego games. Batman is my favourite but their all more or less the same. All right time-passers. The above suggestions ought to be much better.

Thank you all. I wound up ordering Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, because of a. the entire game being co-op, and b. my Mom likes the old cute characters that I used to play as when I was a kid. Spyro, Mario, Link, NiGHTS, and the like.

Nonetheless, thank you for your assistance! I really appriciate it!

Super Mario Brothers Wii is pretty good for some random chaos.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is another easy, but fun, one.

You can also Download Golden Axe from Virtual Console, it's easy to pick up and play and pretty damn entertaining.

Just make sure the game's Co-op isn't some cop-out "second player controls a pointer" crap.

Donkey Kong Country (think it's called return to DK country or something)

There's Ikaruga, for the GameCube. When you play it in co-op it really rellies on both players to know what they're doing if you want to get further, to the same kind of degree as in Portal 2's co-op. And the mechanics with which they do this are pretty creative to say the least. It's also a classic top-down shooter, so you won't have too much trouble navigating the screen together.
But then, I don't know how good your mother is at video games. This is more of your arcade style difficulty, just to give you a reference frame.
