A game of $120,000,000. Would you be selfish or a savior?

Hello, my fellow escapists. Today I come to you with a little hypothetical game. I'm curious to see how you'd play it.

One day, you are anonymously offered a cutting-edge cell phone. It has all of the functions of a regular phone, but with one unusual addition: a button that directly connects you to a concierge.

You are told that you are being given $120,000,000 (US), or the equivalent of such in your country's currency. It can only be spent through making requests of the concierge, and can be conceivably be spent on anything, much like a credit card. Not just goods and items, but more abstract requests (such as "Make the President say "uncle"), which will be carried out and then charged appropriately based on the ultimate costs. For the sake of the simplicity, essentially any request that falls within the price range of 120 million dollars can be requested and carried out.

But there is a catch. There are nine other people who have also been given these phones, with the same sum of money. All of you are also given the same objective: use this money to improve the state of your nation in any way you see fit. If you misappropriate these funds and use them for selfish reasons without contributing towards the greater good, an eleventh person, a trained assassin, will be sent after you with orders to kill. Additionally, if you use up the entirety of your money before the end of the game, you will also be terminated. In the end, each of the remainder of the ten participants is judged on how big a difference they have made in the country with their funds. Whoever has done the most is the winner. The losers are also killed.

Were you offered a chance to play in this game, what would you do? Would you decline to play? How would you spend the money? What would your plan be to use these 120 million to help your nation, if you decided to do so? Do you think you could possibly win?

I'd tell my concierge to kill all the other members, collect the money, and help pay off the national debt.
Or I'd have him kill all the other members, and then use the money to protect myself from the organization that would eventually try to kill me.
Or I'd buy an army of trained bear assassins to protect me. Which is the most logical thing to do, in my opinion.

So what your saying is I have to be a good person with this money or else I die? That's not much fun =/. I don't think 120,000,000 would be enough to fix any part of my country (maybe a few small parts), so I'd have to decline.

What's/When's the "end of the game" again? You never defined it.

The only way to win a game like this is not to play, because who's to say that, say, my decision to hire a harem of girls who act as my domestic servants and sexual playthings while my money puts them through college would not ultimately contribute to the good of the nation by providing a slew of college-educated women to the workforce?

Or, by the same token, the Shawn Kemp/Evander Holyfield-like gaggle of children I would sire by those women could grow up to be the leaders and power brokers of tomorrow. Selfish need not be completely without socially redeeming value. But the Dark Brotherhood fellow would kill me regardless.

Ah. When every player has either accomplished their individual goal or been killed.

Additionally, I should clarify: You don't know who the other people are. The phone will track their purchases, but not their location or personal data.

I will first spend the money to make me a suite which will make me un-killable then I will go about improving the country the best I can without any pressure of death.

I suppose I could pay to have the other people, the organisers and the assassin taken out and then kick back in luxury for the rest of my life.

Hire a team of bodyguards then help libertarians and secularists get elected like mad. I'd probably send around 20,000,000 to charities.

Well... hmm... I'd probably become an assassin taking out the stupidly incompetent people who have to much power or influence...

I'd rather not play.

Let others look after my country, I'll look after myself. I'm better when I focus on one thing at a time.

I would spend the money buying my hearts desires as well as hiring the best mercenary assassin out there to be my bodyguard. When the assassin attacks, I've got my own who knows all the tricks of his trade. That and I would invest to get a continual income.

I can be greedy and win if I want to XD

I'd play. If I don't risk, then this life's just as dull as ever. I would most likely invest in a business of a sort - there go 2 birds with 1 stone. And then, well, who knows. :3 The possibilities are endless, really. Mayhaps assassinate the assassin. Or, hell, assassinate the -judge-. Play with the game master, as for all I care, there may just either be a bigger win, or the inevitable possible death. I would also use my new-founded corpora to try and out-do my opponents, should I find them first.

It depends on who is putting this little game on. Is it sponsored by a private corporation or by the government itself? If it was being sponsored by the government, then it is already a misappropriation of tax dollars and thus and unwindable game as it will invariably damage the system. In that case the only way to win would be to not play.

It also depends on the length of the game. If it was sponsored by a private company, then the money could be used to set up long term interest-bearing funds or long term technology investments with substantial capital reimbursements (we're talking 30 year returns). In such a case one could conceivably win the game while simultaneously loosing as it the time frame didn't allow for a long enough period.

Fuck no. There's no way in hell I'd touch that cash. I'm sure I'd probably spend it poorly anyway.
