No way I'm playing that!

If I had to, I'd probably invest over $50,000,000 in up-and-coming small businesses, doing the double duty of doing good (helping the little guy) and gaining me more money to do stuff with. I'd probably then use the remains on a massive wide-scale "Inform Yourself!" campaign to help raise awareness from the people, hopefully resulting in a smoother running nation.

Then I'd take my first dividend (probably about $2,000,000) and build several homeless shelters (I live in Edmonton, NO ONE should be in the streets right now).

If I'm still alive at the next dividend, I'd probably use recurring dividends to start cutting all the bureaucratic red tape I can fit my money-scissors around. Maybe I can get nuclear power running again.

Seems like a good way to win. I'd probably end up dead though, making me think that this is a pretty crappy game.

Pay someone to kill the assassin. Then none of us will be killed, and we all get out with 120 million, except for whatever I payed to have the assassin killed.

Me: "You ever heard of Les Claypool?"
Concierge: "The guy from Primus?"
Me: "The very same."
Concierge: "What's the order?"
Me: "Get me his primary 4-stringed bass (it's a fretted Carl Thompson with a Kahler tremolo. You know, the one from the John The Fisherman video) and the Rainbow bass. That one's also a Carl Thompson, and it's a 6-stringed fretless one."

...yeah, I'd probably pull a Diogenes and wander the streets in a barrel, looking for a truly honest man to fund the Presidential campaign of.

I wouldn't participate. Too many rules on how to spend the money and such, and if you break any you die (and since these people seem capable of all sort so things, you are within their reach). I think the most selfish thing here is to avoid the whole thing and go on with my life. Sure its not interesting, but screw you, I'm still alive.

This would be simple for me. I would donate all of it to help with the flood in Queensland. They say the damage is in the billions.

I don't know how well it will work but I think I would help the county a lot.

Easy. I'd spend the money exactly how I feel like with complete disregard for any potential assassin coming after me.

I'd just make sure to buy an appropriate weapon to kill off the assassin with and live happily ever after. Assassins don't scare me, since I know how they think and how they act.

That said, doing selfish spending where I live would ultimately lead to the common good, since everything you can buy here is taxed. Which means that each time you pay for something you pay a small percentage of tax, and the taxes go to improve the entire society. So technically I'd follow the rules of the game even when im being selfish and only buy stuff for myself. :)

Unspent money (that has value) is wasted potential no matter how you slice it.
Since excess promotes waste (the US Federal Government exemplifies this), I would spend it as best as I could on trying to solve practical/scientific problems.

EDIT: On reflection, I find the "losing condition" is far too vague and open to interpretation.
Murdering those who try to spend pragmatically (in the spirit of the scenario) is stupid.

So, I'd decline to play.

Were you offered a chance to play in this game, what would you do? Would you decline to play? How would you spend the money? What would your plan be to use these 120 million to help your nation, if you decided to do so? Do you think you could possibly win?
I'd sell my chance to play in the game for a fee that was still quite substantial but well short of the $120,000,000 US, then I'd do whatever the hell I wanted with that money, with no stupid strings attached.

No. A 90% chance of failure with death as the consequence isn't worth it. (Assuming I can't can't just request to kill the assassin first).

Bribe the head of state to pull back the troops from foreign countries (European minicountries isnt made for fighting.. Even to improve relations with big baddies such as the US). Use less on the army in general (Lately we have pumped a load into them). Make sure that the money we now save go to educational facilities and hospitals. Give remaining funds to education and hospitals on the condition that i get to oversee and direct improvements. Make sure that the money gets used proberly before looking at the results of what i did.

Ofcourse i will be sure to follow the rules. I dont want to die after doing what i did.

Of course.

But waste is still waste, and even if the wasteful defense budget might waste a lot more resources than wall street does, that doesn't make the wasting on wall street particularly insignificant...

(P.S Haha, I had to type "for crying out loud" in the captcha to post this, seems somewhat appropriate XD)

Hire a private investigator, make him look for the company that will send the assassin after me, kill them all, buy me a nice house with quality equipment, donate the rest of the money to cancer funds. :)

Can I use the money to give myself superpowers? Of course this could render the assassin unable to combat me, but then again, I could physically right wrongs.. Then again, there could only be so much that I could do, but that would depend on the power, and how I can also exploit it to make more money to do the things my powers cannot.
