A game that could have been amazing but was rushed out.

Sonic '06. It was going to be one of the best 3D sonic games they'd made, but then they rushed it out for a christmas release. What we got was...well, Sonic '06.

Well for some it's really hard to tell if they didn't have the time or never intended to do better, but anyway:
- Brink (no SP, broken release, $60... come on now)
- Borderlands (nice intro, now which of these Skags drops the actual story?)
- Rage (again the story, behind which invisible wall is it?)
- DA2 (pumping out yearly RPGs turns out to be quite a bad idea... who could have guessed)
- Deus Ex:HR (your design choices make no sense whatsoever)
- Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas (oh evil Bug overlord how have we wronged you to earn such wrath!)
- Hard Reset (very neat ideas, completely unpolished, go do it again)

Probably forgetting a whole bunch more.

I'm not sure if it was rushed out, but it certainly felt like it and I am completely surprised no-one has mentioned it.

Star Wars Force Unleashed 2.

I feel depressed again...

Stupid game...

DN:F. The graphics are good (Compared to DN3D) but the game itself felt like a rushed console port. The two weapon limitation was just lazy design (It has been retroactively upped to 4 on the PC apparantly), there was no boot involved, the mechanics were tedious and the storyline just feels very rushed. To me Bulletstorm was more Duke Nukem than DNF was, it had the boot, it had the obscene language, it had the various dismemberment abilities all beautifully gruesome and it had the drinking. All it needed was a couple of strippers and it could easily have been DNF!
Duke Nukem Forever, rushed? You got to be trolling.

It's been in development since 1996!

Brink!

I was so excited for that game, got it day one, put the disk in, got into a matchmaking game. My smile faded right away. Its like they spent no time on it what-so-ever. Seriously I felt coned out of my money and I stopped playing it after a week. If only they had delivered on what they said they would, the game would have been fine. Instead we get no story, even though they advertised it as one of their major selling points, closed in environments that restrict movement, a shitty parquor system, no dynamic objective system and boring classes. There was so much potential to create a revolutionary shooter, instead I ended up with a sack of crap. At least I was able to trade it with someone for MvC3.

Fallout 3, that thing was kinda buggy...

And it might be slightly ironic, but if theyd taken time to actually catch DN forever up instead of releasing a game made by several companies, i think it could have been the classic people were hoping for. Instead it was just kinda a mess as it kept getting passed around.

Kotor 2. Just how much better the game would have been if Lucasarts had just let Obsidian FINISH the damn game
Everyone knows this is the right answer!
Oh my sweet KotOR II, how great you could have been if Lucas wasn't the money grubbing freak he is!

Yup, this. Don't get me wrong, I really like the game, both on solo and co-op, but there were a lot of things that could have been ironed out (which is what Techland is trying to do as we speak). Not only that, but a decent story would have been really nice.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Final Fantasy XIV. With all the money Squeenix dumped into cinematics, making the story spectacular, updating and improving the jobs system, etc. they forgot to actually make the game. And now, well... It's been a good run, hasn't it, Square?

There's a whole list of games that could've been better if they'd spent a little more time on it:
Every Spider-man game since Spider-man 2 the Movie.
Fable (the series).
Darkest of Days
Dark Void
Every movie tie-in game in the last decade or so.
Duke Nukem Forever (and by more time, I mean more time actually developing the game)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

I'm sure there's a bunch more with great premises and franchises behind them, but just fell short of their potential...

Civilization V: The Guide To Releasing Games at Beta Stage for Full Price

Seriously, it's a fantastic game, with an absolutely brilliant concept behind it, but utterly and completely ruined by bugs, glitches, unfinished AI, Civilopedia and other features, lack of promised features etc. I physically wanted to punch the people responsible for it because the amazingly apparent potential in it just made it all the worse every time the game would fail in one of its many aspects over nothing but lack of work on it. It honestly had the quality of a beta game on release and it's barely any better now, even after several patches.

Vampire The Masquerade bloodlines.
Even with all the fan mods it's nowhere near what it could've been.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior

At times the game was actually great IMO, but so many bugs and issues that could have easily been fixed plagued it.

Dragon Age 2 there could have been a great game in the making if they thought it threw a little more.

LotR: Conquest. The SW Battlefront games were so much fun and had high replay value. Conquest had a ton of potential but ended up butchering every bit of lore and had pretty crappy gameplay. Very disappointing for me, a huge LOTR fan

It is hard to decide between Kotor 2 and VtM:B, but I have to go with the better overall game and say Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.

Brink. Ugh. Holy crap, fuck that game.

It had the most potential of any game I had ever seen this generation, but had the worst execution of any game I've ever heard of, aside from maybe Superman 64.

Dead Island was rushed as hell too. The game itself is pretty damn awesome, but the interface and bugs are pretty bad.
