a game where decisions have consequences

After recently purchasing Deus Ex of steam (£1.49 ftw), I was completely amazed by how much work went into it. Literally, everything i did had some sort of consequence to it. Even something as simple as accidently wandering into the women's bathroom got me lectured by my commander. I love this game because it allows me to be a complete %£*%head, which just affects how people treat me. With this in mind, i was wondering if there are any other games like this? I played the knights of the old republic series, which even though the consequences were ever present, there were limitations on what you could do. After all, KOTOR wouldnt let me execute a hostage, execute a fellow squadmate, and then throw potted plants at my brother.

Anymore games like this? Im enjoying all the freedom here :D

Fable seems to have balls all in the way of consequences.

I'm liking the direction Mass Effect is heading in, though can't be certain that they'll capitalise on all these decisions until the the third game.

Alpha Protocol, while not perfect, really did make each choice matter. Even more than the choices in Bioware games.

Little things could end up biting you in the ass or getting you a reward hours later.

And, if you actually like the mechanical portions of (or can at least tolerate them) Deus Ex, you should be well insulated from the flaws of Alpha Protocol.

Fallout 2 and New Vegas, let's say you shot someone in a town, they'd remember that and get hostile, and stay hostile, and it'd effect your ending.

Mario has, if you decide not to gather enough starts you can't face off with Bowser...
Well how are MMO:s position is this? I was just wondering that my decisions there play a pretty big part for my characters interaction with others because they are also players while the interaction with the NPC:s plays no difference what so ever, I think I am going a bit out of line here?

Well... In 2, yeah.

But there is the whole glitch thing in NV where your reputation with EVERYBODY randomly gets reset to Neutral.

It kinda helped when I had already sided with the NCR so now I don't get those bloody Caesar's Legion Assassin squads attacking me every ten minutes.

Too bad I can't use the NCR radio any more.

Infamous has a morality thing, and not a bad one. Being good or evil actually changes your character from Blue electricity to Red electricity, which is awesome.

Black and White 1 and 2 also have the morality thing going for them, as you can train your creature to help your villagers or be a dick to them, and you can decide if you want to win other villages over by being nice to them or just marching your creature and an army in there.

And, ninja'd already.

However, as a follow-up, I have to mention the Mass Effect series, not for the way the choices affect the game's storyline, but for the way the your choices change the little things.

They did say every decision you've made in the past two - EVERY decision, no matter how mundane - will have a consequence. Which is awesome.

If they follow through - success.

I'm with the Fallout statement. There ARE consequences. People will turn hostile on you and actively try to KILL YOU for doing the wrong thing, and it's totally justified.

Lemme take you into my head for New Vegas. I learn that there are a number of factions in the game, really. NCR, Brotherhood of Steel, Great Khans, Legion forces, Powder Gangers, Followers of the Apocalypse, Mr. House, etc.

NCR were pretty much the good guys in Tandi's regime, but they're starting to resemble some of the more questionable parts of American history.

BoS were also good guys, especially in Fallout 3, but here we see the side of them that's more obsessed with controlling high technology.

The Legion is suppose to be the basic villain group, modeled after the Roman Empire. And though the Romans were pretty bad, they DID give us so much.

The rest, aside from Mr. House, isn't quite as important and...I'm not spoiling Mr. House for those who haven't played through. NOW...my mindset for most of the game was that I could get away with so much shit in this game if I left the Legion alone for a good part of it. They all showed up as friendlies on my scanner, and some still ARE despite my having to kill a number of them. (Fact is, they attacked first, so I'll put down any that show up red on me.) I've re-taken Nelson, but I don't want to push them too far, because I want to have more fun first...

I think I should clear out the Fiends, though.

Bioshock 2 kinda did. Like if you leave someone rather than kill them, they may send backup to repay you. I can only think of the one instance, but still, it's something.

It's been talked about a little already, but the Fallout series is pretty good when it comes to this. It's one of the reasons I love it so much. Sometimes you'll try to lockpick one door and all hell breaks loose. Megaton (Fallout 3) is a great example... I won't post any spoilers, but I think most people know what I'm talking about.

There's a Flash game, One Chance, about a miracle drug gone horribly wrong that will kill off every living cell on Earth in six days. True to its name, you can't restart the game at all, so you're stuck with whatever choices you make; in my case, at the end, it was the main character and his young daughter on a bench in a snowy park, presumably dead.
