I'm playing Deus Ex right now, and I'm pretty sure it's possible.

That's not to say that I don't spray EVERYONE full of lead.

No, you never have to kill anyone. Ever. In fact, if you do, the game calls you a loser and robs you of points.
I thought as much.

It's fun giving that game to people who play normal FPS's, and watching them kill everyone, then get killed themselves.

Or, if they do complete the level, watching them recoil in horror at their pitifully low score and say "But I killed everyone!"

Hehehhe...
Isn't that the game where if you just equip the bots with the capsicum spray paintball guns they subdue nearly every enemy without a problem?

Portal. Isn't that one obvious?
The companion cube?
That's not a person.
You take that back!

They hand you a kickass sword, some amazing abilities and now they say "You know you don't have to use them, right?"
The most advanced martial artists know that the true master never needs to use his powers. Even though he practices them daily, just in case.

Deus Ex. I think you can even complete the game without even rendering anyone unconscious (which the game lets you do in many different ways) but I've never attempted that. It would be an interesting challenge, though. OTOH, from a roleplaying point of view, it wouldn't really make sense to actively avoid knocking people out; at least killing people is morally undesirable so it makes sense to avoid that.

Just to clear up this matter once and for all; No, you don't have to kill anyone in Deus Ex. The game forces you into positions where you have to fight and kill people on the odd occasion, but they can all be avoided.

Lebedev; Anna tells you to kill him, you can choose not to, Anna scolds you for being a pussy and kills him herself.

Anna; Encountered in the Hells Kitchen subway, which you can just sneak out of through a vent or run past altogether. The moment yoou run into Gunther you are captured.

Gunther; Encountered in Paris cathedral. Can be avoided/ran away from completely.

Maggie Chow; Tranquilize in the UC.

Walter; Encountered in the sub base and Area 51. Can be avoided completely.

Bob Page; Never killed on-screen, presumably dies during one ending and maybe after the other 2, but it is never seen or confirmed, so doesn't count.

Everyone else can be avoided or tranquilized. Though if you attempt to doa no-kills run, Paul will always die when you leave him behind, the only way to save him is with some SERIOUS gunplay.

I once got 75 percent through Assassin's Creed without killing anyone besides the main targets. It was hard as balls, but lots of fun.

Beating MGS3 and 4 is more fun without killing anyone. Especially 4. Sure you can run about gunning everyone down, but sneaking past is so much more awesome.

In RapeLay, if you're careful, no-one has to die depending, but that can vary depending on your view on abortion.
You win the thread. That was awesome.

The fact that they've said no killing is possible in rising actually gives me some hope that it'll be more intelligent than that trailer made it seem. Playing a stealthy ninja would be really sweet if they pull it off...

Yes but we are a forgiving crowd. Sometimes...

OP: Thief anyone? That game actually discourages you from killing in many instances. I remember one time I had blackjacked a servant and was lost so I came back and kept wailing on the unconscious servant with the blackjack. All of a sudden, I fail the mission because I killed an innocent. I must have beat the servant to death.

Kane and Lynch 2

*giggle*

I'm wondering whether or not Shadow of the Colossus counts. Depends how you view the colossi.

I know a lot of Splinter Cell fans were annoyed when Conviction took a more action-orientated turn, so it looks like MGS is just reassuring fans that their game is still stealth based.

You can play "Iji" without killing anything, if that game counts. If you DO kill stuff, though, and do it frequently, the titular character will start to get a little bit bloodthirsty, and some of the story changes.

Not sure if this has been mentioned since I'm not going to read through five more pages of comments, but you can supposedly get through Fallout: New Vegas without killing anyone. Which seems kind of silly when the game gives you a grenade launcher minigun.
