Can anyone tell me of a good anime convention or fair coming up early 2011? Preferably one that has a lot of big name production companies or animation companies.

As I understand it, LA's Anime Expo is the anime industry's answer to San Diego Comic-Con. Likewise with Anime Weekend Atlanta and NYCC.

Otakon is pretty huge. I don't know who all is going to be there this year though. It's in Baltimore every summer, either late July or early August. I've only been once in 2006. Damn near met Yoshiki of X but...well...my GF at the time pulled me out of the line. Didn't date her for very long after...

So yeah: Otakon if you're on the East coast

That's shitty. Did you get to see them on tour a few months back?

I second this! Even though this years was a clusterfuck because of the new building and layout, I hope next year things will be a little more organized.

Also, depends on what you're looking for in a con. If it's just meeting people even the small cons are fun, but bigger cons have bigger stars and shops. [link]http://animecons.com/events/[/link] has a list of all major cons so you can see if any near you seem interesting, or go to anime expo since it's the biggest con.

I missed them then too! I hear they're doing a world tour in 2011 though and returning to the U.S. for some of it. I hope to catch them then.

If you live in Idaho, Anime Oasis is really good. I met Johnny Bosche, he's a douche bag, but I've also been told he was hung over the whole con... Uhm, I'm not sure who else was there, I don't quite remember but yeah... I probably wouldn't travel from out of state for this one though, there are better ones to go to. Oh, and it's at the end of May.

[/spoiler]

Actually, that's a horrible picture of me... Ugh, now I kinda want to take it down >.<

:(

That'd be awesome, I'm going to have to watch out for that. Thanks for the heads up, heh.

OP: It's in the middle of the year usually, but Anime Expo.

Just don't go to the small cons that are just starting up. They're a mess.

Megacon in Orlando is pretty good.
It large, but not so massive that you'd get lost.

Megacon 2011 will be in either March or late February.

Avcon is a great one to go to if you fancy comming all the way down here to lil ol adelaide, tis well organised, reasonably large, the staff and volunteers are generally funny guys who try to make it as enjoyable as possible, and it caters to both anime and video games

there's also an indie games room sponsored where projects are shown off and IIRC some of the best ones go on to get scouted by other studios

and in recent years the con has gotten backing and sponsorship from channel 10, Madman entertainment, Gametraders, creativeindustries, siren visual and the government of south australia

Avcon 2011 will be in around late july
