I've been looking around for a good castle sim or strategy game, something like the The Settlers or Stronghold series. What suggestions do you peoples have to share? It can be set in any time period, but Medieval is preferred, just due to that feel of seeing your archers placed high on your stone walls unleash a volley of arrows upon their heads. Hit me, fellow peoples, with thoughts from your brains!

You can't go wrong with Dwarf Fortress. Not exactly the same thing, quite a bit different gameplay really. Much more in-depth and with some odd humor, but worth a look. Free too.

When I was a kid, I loved Castles II: Siege and Conquest. It's probably pretty dated now, though. Still, you can get it on GOG if you're ever feeling like something old-school. Also, I vaguely recall that it's the game that inspired the Stronghold series.

Medieval 2: Total War?
There's also this game called Medieval Lords which is like a mix between Settlers and Stronghold.

Came into this thread specifically to mention that. Never got to play the full version, but the shareware version left a major impression on me, despite how short the demo was.

Thank you all for the suggestions, and yes, I have heard of Dwarf Fortress, but I am just a little bit scared of it from what I heard and seen.
