Resident Evil is probably the best game to film franchise but then again there's not much competition.

One of my annoyances with the new PoP is that there using the emo prince from the Warrior Within and he was rubbish. As long as Uwe Boll stays away from it, it could turn out alright.

Someone managed to make a good film out of a rollercoaster. You'd think adapting a game would be much easier.

If so when will it begin? Prince of Persia or much later?
Err do you mean movie to game or game to movie?

BEcause prince of persia as we all know has already gone through 3 incarnations as a game.
I mean game-to-movie.

Well Without Star Wars we would never have had 'SW: Battlefront' so on film - game we've already won.

And on game - film resident evil was OK and prince of persia is set to be good.

Oh yeah and there was the huge hit of DOOM (Sarcasm)

Game-to-film: only ones I've seen that aren't complete crap were Resident Evil 1&2 (although 2 loses points for
making Nemesis turn good
Three doesn't feel like RE personally. It also tosses the idea of canon out the window. I liked the CGI movie though. It captured that OH SHIT feeling pretty well.

I have had this conversation often and i always say that game to movie adaptions will never be good, everyone who plays a game always gets something slightly different out of it so when its turned into a movie it never fits in with the subject version of how it should be in our heads. And whats more the games that get turned into movies are really only ever the commercially successful games that sold millions of copies and are only made as they are sure to make at least its budget back and then some as its already got an established audience even if we all go watch it just to see how they ruined yet another fondly remembered title.

As is why i will go and see the new the POP movie,I think as gamers we like to be right about these sort of things and will pay for a ticket even though we know it will disappoint just so we can then walk out and say "I told you so!" I think the best praise a game based movie can get is that if it was called something else or been a stand alone movie it would of been OK.

As for Movie based games i think they have a much easier task and can be good but the trend seems to be that the best of them are made years after the movie release as its pretty much a universal truth that any tie-ins around the release are nothing more then jumped up promotional material.

I like the hitman movie, haven't played the games much (the odd level)so I don't know how it ties in with the games but it wasn't the worst movie ever.

Nice girl, good story and some good action scenes, whats not to like?

Good movie to game adaptations

Goldeneye
King kong Offical game of the movie
mostly all of the star wars games (especially rogue squadron and KOTOR even though i haven't played that one)
Matrix path of neo
Lord of the rings the third age (since its based on the film)
The riddick games (though i haven't played them i hear they are good)
Alien trilogy
Hercules (yes i thought it was good don't judge)

Good game to movie adaptations

Street fighter (the anime movie not the live action one)
dead space downfall (despite the animation being shit)
Silent hill
final fantasy 7 advent children (meh...its okay)
Tomb raider (but that's debatable)
the first two pokemon movies were a good watch when i was younger

(i was also going to say RE Apocalypse but then i remembered how much they fucked up the Nemesis so no)

Er...you mean a good game adaptation of a film, or a good film adaptation of a game?
In the first case, we have Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.

In the second, we have Mortal Kombat.
Ah, touché. I completely forgot about both of those. (Of course, Butcher Bay was a tie-in, not an adaptation, and thus I think it distances itself a little bit from the realm of videogames lifted directly from films. Still, it counts, I suppose.)

Mortal Kombat was pretty solid, though. Nothing great, but solid. And at this stage that's good enough for me--I don't anticipate movie adaptations being anything mind-blowing, nor do I think they need to be.
