I've been looking for a good Sci-Fi MMO for a while, but I can't find anything good. Does anyone have any recommendations? (Yes, I'm letting you preach to me about your favorite space MMO, enjoy.) I'd kill for a good one, for once. Please help, you can have a cookie.

To be honest the only one I am aware of is Eve: Online. It is a space-faring one.

There is a Star Wars one out fairly soon though.

I'd stay away from Eve: Online, it's not exactly friendly to new players. I couldn't even get my head around the tutorial. On the other hand, the graphics and backstory are nice.

Other than that Fallen Earth was pretty good from what little I played of it, not sure if you would count that as sci-fi though.

I might try EVE. I just don't think I'm going to end up paying for it whether I like it or not.

Meh, I heard Fallen Earth was bad from a friend and I don't really like the atmosphere or design either.

Try waiting for the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Don't know when it'll come out, but I'd say around summer.

The most important question here is - what level of hardness do you want in you sci-fi? Eve is a rather hard-science game with a few unplausible techs in it. If you're looking for something softer, then you might be interested in Star Trek instead.

WEll Eve. I tried to start. Its not really fast and easy to understand, but thats not the problem. It takes a huge lot of time and in that not much is happening most of the time.
Like ZP said "It's like a second job that you pay for."

if you have the free time in eve you can end-up just having outer people pay by giving them in game money it takes 2-3months to do this if you find out what your doing(its supported by the company as a way to curve gold farmers and it works rather well)

EDIT: but yea eve is a nich game you eather like it or you dont

go Star Trek, i don't play it :p not a treky, but i have friends that do and are an they enjoy it
or wait for the Star Wars one
also, donno if it counts as 'sci-fi' but you might wanna give City of Heroes or Champions Online a try, since both can be more or less sci-fi-y, to a point :p

Taikodom. It's like a Brazilian, free Eve Online. You fly around, shoot stuff, and do missions. You can buy new ships, and you also choose a class. Bare minimum, simple MMORPG, but it's still pretty good.

If you want a game with NPCs and quests i can't help you.
For everything else, i recommend Planetside. One big multiplayer FPS, with lots of customization on what weapons, vehicles and equipment you want. Not as good as it used to be due to being neglected by SOE, but still pretty sexy.
It does have a story to it, but you'd have to look it up and it's not important.

Thussofar, it's awesome, it's easier than EVE, and not finished yet. [http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=33] It may also be free.

So instead of gold farmers making money the Devs promote people paying multiple subscriptions for other people to farm with. Would it be possible to start that cycle in the trial or would I need a couple months.

I saw it earlier. It has one of those micro-transactions things so meh...

Soft science kinda ruins the experience for me, so I guess it's hard science.

...

Screw it, I'll get an EVE trial.
