"There are plenty of fine inns. A small number of you are welcome to stay as guests at my home. It certainly won't be as extravagant as the inns, but it's cozy and secure." Vik'nar addressed the group as a whole.

"Where would your home be, Vik'nar?"

Ra'ive would've would preferred to have a roof over his head for one night atleast, however he was sure Vik'nar wouldn't be very appreciative of his habits and so he was reluctant.

He also wanted to be sure he stayed well away from the slums, he wasn't sure if anyone would recognise him after fifty years but still he wasn't going to risk it.

"Not all that far from here. It's in a nice little burg between the Nobles District and the Slums, where a lot of the merchants and tradesmen make their homes. Just ask for Hashi'shin in that area and someone will point you in the right direction. My family and some of my kin have been able to do well for themselves, having pushed The Guild out of the Merchant Quarter and parts of the Slums."

After pausing for a moment a dawn of realization crosses his face and Vik'nar beams a smile. He holds up the sealed parchment. "Speaking of which, I should go confer with the cleric about this. I imagine my request is going to prove them most troublesome and it would be best to get that moving forward before we depart." He waits to see if anyone wants to accompany him to the cleric's office before heading down the hallway.

"If you don't mind, I would like to accompany you. There was the matter of your source that had found out about my father's murder. I will not press on it, but when will we see this source of yours?"
Landon followed Vik'nar down the hallway. He was surprisingly excited about possibly finding the murderers if his father.

A pair of knights came forth to claim the gryphon eggs from Ellondra. She was skeptical, but at a nod from the King she turned over the two of them and nodded stiffly, somewhat awkward about letting them go.

She had nothing on which to use the wish-fulfilling parchment at the time, so she stowed it away in her bag for the future, perhaps to discuss it with the Commander in Wesburg once their second quest was completed. She could restock on rations and basic supplies for free in her hometown, so finding a comfortable Inn would be her next task. Somehow, sleeping in Vik'nar's home seemed inappropriate after the misunderstanding they'd had earlier.

Ra'ive shook his head, wondering around the disricts bordering the slums and asking random passers by for directions wasn't exactly the kind of discretion that had kept him alive as an assassin for fifty years and he doubted it would serve him well as far as survival was concerned.

"I wont be joining you at Vik'nar's" he spoke to the rest of the party as he moved to the head of the group and turned so he was facing them.

"Exit out the north gates and I shall find you, that is where I shall make my camp for the time being"

And with that he turned and began to walk swiftly away from the remainder of the group. He'd have prefered a roof over his head but staying in the city was already stirring up some bad memories for him, he didn't want to stay and see what else would be stirred up if he lingered.

"I'm sure he'll turn up soon enough. For what I'm paying him, he probably already knows we are back in the city." Vik'nar said to Landon as they walked down the hall.

"Alright." Knodding to Ra'ive as he left. I wonder what that is about?

"Very well. Lead the way. Or should we wait to see if some of the others would like to join us?" Landon said to Vik'nar.

He didn't want to rush anything just to find out about the ones who had killed his father. If others would like to join them, that was good unless Vik'nar did not want anyone else to come.

"I would join if you would wish. But my wish would not be granted, no matter how many time I asked" Evela says in a slow tone of voice. He was oviously sad about his encounter with the king and him not being able to legalise magic yet.

The Professional took his payment and walked off, marching in a different direction than the rest of the group was currently moving in, grunting: "I'll meet up you lot in da' morning, I plan to spend some time in da' pubs tonight."

He didn't glance back to see if anyone heard him, and simply exited through the palace doors with smirk on his face, certain that he'd be able to find a tavern to burn through his money at.

"Anyone is welcome to come along or they can meet up with us later. I'd like to speak with the cleric first about this parchment, but then we can track him down. He's likely around the restaurant or my office."

Speaking of offices, I hope I don't have to get one like this because of this request of mine.

The cleric's office is quite extravagant with paned glass window murals, a huge finely craved oak desk and platinum inlaid bas-relief images depicting Gyia The Worldmother crafting the universe and all it's inhabitants.

Or at least it would be if ledgers, maps, letters and all other manner of paper documents were not strewn all over the room. It seemed the cleric was serving as more of a clerk these days. With the threat of Tai Ogul to the East rising the nations treasury coffers must be flowing to prepare for the worst. The weathered old man asks to hear their requests in private one at a time so he could keep a proper ledger. He calls in a steward boy to take notes for him.

---

When Vik'nar is lead in and explains his request to be made lord, protector, whatever of the Slums and Sever-Elf district of the market. The cleric's mouth just hangs agape.

"Why...I can't...How his lordship expects..." He sighs audibly, his shoulder's slumping with the now unusual burden bestowed upon him. "You see the issue isn't that the king doesn't have the powers to do so, but to raise a Sever to the stature of nobility at a time like this... I shan't think of it any more." He slumped back into deep thought before finally tilting his head up after what seemed a week of reflection. "Hmmm, well perhaps we could knight you. With no lord to serve you could act a free-knight in title to carry out the King's laws where you saw fit and the lands you requested could be turned over to your stewardship."

---

Vik'nar cared little for the title, only the means to carry out his goal. The cleric explained that he'd still need to have a proper knighting ceremony, but that for the time being he could draw up the legal documents and make available his portion of the taxes allocated to govern his new district.

Leaving the office he waited to see if Landon was finished with his own dealings and for anyone else who wished to accompany him, before riding off towards home.

Landon stepped out of the office and placed the parchment in his bag.

"I will use it later when I have the need for it. There is nothing I need for now."

He followed Vik'nar after seeing if anyone else wanted to follow them.

The opulence of the Noble's District was on full display in the afternoon sun. The avenues between the great manor estates were filled with fine carriages and litters carried by slaves baring their patrons dressed in all finery.

"Can you believe he lets his slave ride as an equal?" Someone complains, not even bothering to whisper as they pass. They must think that Vik'nar is beholden to Landon. The pair certainly look the part of a armored human lord and a simply dressed squire. Vik'nar pays it no mind if Landon doesn't. He's heard far worse.

The Noble District soon gives way to the Merchant Quarters. The houses grow smaller and closer together which in turn allows the roads to widen to accommodate carts, wagon and stands. The area is abuzz with noise and people buying and selling. Turning down an alley takes them to a section of this area that has been claimed by the sever-elf. Vik'nar stopped a rather cozy looking home which backed up to a smaller building that faced the main road through the district. The most wonderful assortment of smells could be detected coming from within.

Landon smelled the air. "A lovely assortment of smells around here." he said with a smile.

"Might this be your home?" he asked Vik'nar, looking at the cozy looking house and the small building. It looked quite lovely to Landon. He didn't have much of a home left himself, so seeing a home like this was a nice sight for him.

"Yep, this is home." As the words left his mouth a slender sever-elf exited out the house door.

"Vik, I had heard you are back in town."

"Ah! Just the man we were looking for." As he jumped off the horse to clasp hands with him and then swinging back towards Landon. "Landon Garth, may I present my cousin San'tar Hashi'shin. He'll have the information you seek. Come let's head inside, I know you're eager to hear the details."

The inside of the home matched the exterior, it was nice but not overly elaborate. Vik'nar led the two to a small study. Once the three were situated and the door closed behind them the other sever-elf explained directly to Landon.

"So yes, I was able to determine that The Guild carried out the kill-order for your father Landon. I'm afraid I wasn't able to learn much more than that. Because of the high profile nature, the client worked through the Headmasters and they in turn through their own intermediaries to give the order here in Herelden. Those three are eternally paranoid and secretive after the mysterious vigilantism that went on here a few years back. We have of yet been able to determine where they are hiding, but they will most assuredly know who hired them for the assassination."

Landon was amazed by the interior of the house. He then sat down and listened to San'tar with interest. When he was finished, Landon said to him "I thank you for what information you were able to gather. It...may not be much, but it is something. You have my thanks."

He then turned to Vik'nar. "The inside of your house is quite lovely, if you do not mind me saying. Would it be alright with you if I took my armor off? It gets quite heavy after a while."

Well I've been putting off posting something for a couple days now but here it is. Feel free to join Ra'ive once your buisness in the castle is concluded anyone.

Ra'ive sat by the fire of his make-shift campsite and breathed in the smoked from a recently heated bowl of Black rock. He had decided to have even more than usual, he was anxious to see this day through so that he could re-unite with the party and continue.

He sat and pondered these strange thoughts, having spent the last 50 years drifting Herelden alone, it was only natural that he would grow atached to any group or individual that accompanied him. However there was something else to it, a strange sense of pride, probably brought on by being one of 'the good guys' for once.

'About time'

Ra'ive lay back on the grass and gazed upwards into the sky. He wondered where the rest of the group would be right now? When he had said that he wouldn't be spending the day in the city, he had dared to hope, if not for a second, that another of their number might join him.

'Aslong as its not Skaar, I'm happy'

It was true, he still loathed that creature and would one day find an excuse to end its existance. Sure it was usefull but it had also damaged his pride and he would not forget that

He though of the other magic user, a strange, slightly naivee fellow but he was sure that he would be able to pull his wait, if not just for the fact he could heal their injuries. At first he had been reluctant and skeptical to have him accompany them but once he saw Vik'nar's arm healed he had no doubt that he would be an asset.

Ra'ive took another lung-full of the accrid smoke and lay back again. As he lay his thoughts drifted from the other members of the group, their new task and what would await them behind the gates of Tortugen. As his mind wondered, Ra'ive slowly drifted out of conciousness, until he was left in a deep sleep, still as a corpse on on the hill beside his camp.

"Of coarse, there's a guest room just up the hall. If you're hungry, the house and the building behind share the same kitchen. I'll let them know you're a guest of mine and they'll whip you up whatever you desire."

When Landon had left, Vik'nar began to explain with great enthusiasm what he accomplished with the King's grace. He instructed San'tar to begin to slowly close down their less than legal operations and to begin to train the enforcers as proper city-guard. Now that they could properly deal with The Guild and receive their due taxation. There would be no further needs to fund themselves with shady business.

Eager to be back, he left word for Landon that he'd stepped out to go look for some interesting ingredients for a fine meal tonight. Before leaving the sever-elf district, Vik'nar tracked down a group of younger children. He gave each of them a gold and the description of and likely locations of the other members of the group. He instructed the messengers to let them know of the meal he'd promised them all in the mountains and where they could find the restaurant that evening.

Ellondra had left the castle grounds proper at the earliest available opportunity; finding an Inn in the merchant's district that would accommodate a Royal Guard was not difficult. She paid for her room and board and insisted to the stable hands that she would tend to her mount herself, spending much of the evening grooming the stallion and maintaining the irons on his hooves. So involved was she in her work that when a child tugged at her armor she nearly stabbed him with the pick.

"Mother of--I said I didn't need help!"

"Your name Ellondra?"

She blinked. "...I--"

"S'you, all right. Vik said t'look for a lady wearin' pants."

Despite her obvious annoyance, the boy continued speaking and relayed the message about dinner with the others at Vik'nar's restaurant and the directions thereto. Seeing that he was awaiting an answer, she granted him an unladylike grunt of acknowledgment and turned back to her work as he scampered off. It certainly didn't sound like a bad offer at the moment, being hungry and with full functioning memory of the quality of the sever-elf's cooking. Ellondra thought it over while she finished her work and eventually succumbed to the promise of hearty food and opportunity to strategize.

She took the time to clean up and then followed the boy's instructions.

"Thank you. I will be in the room for a short while. Just need to cast off my armor for a few minutes or so. And I will remember that."

Landon walked up the hall Vik'nar had pointed him towards and found a guest room he could use. He stepped inside and immediately after closing the door, he placed his bag and shield on the floor and took his sheathed sword off and placed it beside his bag and shield. He then took off the torso part of his armor and placed it on the floor. After taking off the legs part of the armor, he sat down on the bed inside there, dressed in the light clothes he wore inside his armor which included a shirt and pants, and looked around the room. It was just like the rest of the house he had seen, cozy and nice, but nothing too fancy.

A knock was heard from the door to his room. He stood up and opened it. A young girl, about 16-17 years old, relaid the message about Vik'nar having stepped out to Landon. He thanked the girl for the message and closed the door. He then lied down on the bed and looked at the ceiling, thinking about the group he was a part of.
