So I ended up having to use weapons I wasn't specialized for, which was a pain.
Speaking of which, trying to play sniper spec was damn near impossible. Don't know if they fixed it somewhat in the PC version but xbox version you were being quite and sneaky, trying to get the drop on them and bam! your npcs go and charge full speed in front of you, blocking your shots, and putting the enemy in high alert.

Only time it was remotely useful was during that one time where you had to get your tankthing(forgot its name was along time ago) back and you were ontop of a cliff shooting down at the people below you.
I didn't try to play as a sniper, but I agree in principle, the classes were somewhat trivial. I hope they improve upon that in the second installment. It would be nice to be able to have a wider array of classes, with focuses in areas like stealth, etc.

I played through at least half way with all the classes (though not ever specialization), and found the only real difference to be what weapons I could use and how easy it was to hack containers. Other than that, it didn't feel like I was playing any different.

Oh my god, yes. I tried to do the same thing and those idiots just ran in and started shooting (not at the enemies, mind you, at the wall they were hiding behind. IS THAT HELPING AT ALL YOU STUPID ASSHOLES??) and screwing it all up. I did find my sniper rifle helpful when they were hiding behind a crate or something and their head was peeking out. My assault rifle, pistol, and shotgun couldn't pull off such a shot but I was able to do it with my sniper rifle. I feel like the game would've been greatly improved with a "don't shoot until I shoot" function.

I loved it.

Some criticisms, though...

All the driving? Really goddamn boring. Really just a way to take a few short fights and make them take half an hour.

The enemy AI is awful. All they do is stand still or rush you.

-- Alex
Both of those can be avoided by sticking to the main plot and ignoring side quests, which are more of a chore than anything else. Hooray for never having to drive across uncharted planets! I know the AI may seem unavoidable, but the whole rushing thing only comes out in the side mission bunkers (you know, the ones which repeat over and over). The set piece battles seemed to have had more work put into them.

To clear this up; I really enjoyed Mass Effect, especially the ending which was incredibly exciting.

/sigh

I didn't really like Mass Effect. It had an intresting premise, but I never saw very much replay value in it; and even on hard I breezed through the game.

MEH.
I don't understand. If you didn't play through the game at least twice you can't have unlocked the highest difficulty. You would then have to play it a third time to sample it again on hardest.

And I don't think RPGs are the genre you should buy if you're looking for a challenge anyway.

You can fix that by changing weapons.

That glitch happens everytime I fight with Saren, I spent half an hour running around waiting for it to go down thinking that it was some sort of ability the guy has.
The bug is that the weapon you are using stays overheated. Switching weapons allows you to continue to play, but the weapon that is bugged stays bugged.

This happened to me twice. Once during some random combat, I simply waited for a point where I could save and reload, and that fixed the problem.

The real issue (for me, anyway) was during the Saren battle. Since you had to defeat him to continue, and my squadmates, for some reason, were being incredibly useless, all of my weapons kept bugging out, and of course I couldn't simply reload in combat. So I ended up having to use weapons I wasn't specialized for, which was a pain.
Don't take this personally but what has that got to do with anything

Aaah... Mass Effect
