Bleh.

I'm given to understand that the latest futuristic CoD games didn't perform to the high expectations of the bean-counters so I understand wanting to change things up. However, going back to WWII just brings to mind the image of an adult climbing into a cradle, curling up and sucking their thumb. Perhaps they feel that enough time has passed that WWII will feel fresh again, but I still feel bored and sleepy at the mere thought of firing a yet another fucking Thompson at yet another fucking German in yet another fucking grey uniform and yet another coal scuttle helmet with in yet another fucking European countryside.

Oh, and I suspect they won't even measure up to the original games in one regard. The first CoD impressed me back in the day by showing multiple fronts of the war, notably the Eastern Front. I'm betting this one will be an all-American flag-waving session.

However my opinion doesn't mean a damn thing here since I haven't bought a CoD game for the better part of a decade. So I'd be interested to know what any resident Call of Duty die-hards think about this.

Thoughts?

I finally kicked the game to the curb with Infinite Warfare and I don't see myself coming back.

While the new (old?) coat of paint is nice, it'll still be the same broken game under it. I don't know if CoD has gotten worse or if it always had these flaws (Host is God is what finally broke me) and time has just made them more noticable but it would take way more than a new setting for me to care again.

Setting alone won't fix the problem. The entire business model is fucked and I don't see Activision moving away from it. This will basically be another CoD like every other before it, only with different looking guns and soldiers. Of course just like every year Activision will claim that this is completely different and innovative. They might even try to convince people that it's a new engine again.

So, wait, has there been any confirmation that the new game is going to be called Call of Duty WWII, as the leaked images seem to imply?

Because that is pretty lame. Not as lame as calling it simply 'Call of Duty' again, reboot style, but still lame.

They've come full circle on running out of ideas. There is only so much one can do with this tired genre, especially when you have to keep meeting those various tired old quotas.

Not officially, not that I'm aware of.

The website claims that the leak is corroborated by "a trusted source with insider knowledge". Obviously I can't speak for their sources or reliability thereof, so take it for whatever you think its worth.

While I understand why, I don't think it will work for them. The problem is Call of Duty just isn't fresh anymore. WW2, Future, Modern, none of it matters because ultimately it is the same fucking shit over and over again.

They need to develop the game into a new concept. Original story telling, not spectical Michael Bay nonsense. Innovate, not reiterate.

Sadly it is Activision and there is no way they will allow enough development time for that.

If they do a Next Gen Omaha Beach level than I might be interested.

EDIT: Just saw the image leak and it looks like Omaha Beach.

But I am bit dissipointed because I was hoping Battlefield will do a Next Gen WW2 game first with an Omaha Beach level because Battlefield just looks prettier in my eyes.

Not interested. I had my first experience with COD last year, when I got Modern Warfare during Steam sales, and it was just so fucking boring. Besides, I'm tired of solving all my problems with bullets, it doesn't matter if they're space bullets or old timey bullets.

This. Also, if they bring back Richtofen into the Zombies universe I might be interested again, mostly just for nostalgia reasons.

I dunno, a game where the heavily pro-military, pro-nationalism themes of Call of Duty returning to shooting Nazis in the 1940's could be novel after a decade.

They just need to cut out that "paying for map packs" and "loot crates with objectively better gear" and "paying for loot crates" and "gear is restricted by level" and "basic gear is unlocked via loot crate".

Infinite Warfare's multiplayer progression scheme was a cornucopia of bad design choices.

The last CoD game that I really played was MW3. I tried Black Ops 3, and, while I found the campaign interesting enough to play through, the multiplayer was abysmal to me. I'm particularly not a fan of having to unlock all you stuff through a random drop system instead of unlocking everything as you leveled up like the previous games. Even more so since you had to earn points to even get said drops, which were harder to get if you didn't have any decent equipment and only played the game on occasion, going up against players with all the good stuff and hundreds of hours already into the game. The next one would have to undo a lot of decisions from the last few and actually go back to a lot of the older, proven formulas before I'd be interested, and even then I doubt I'd actually get it.

They should just let me buy cod4 remastered as a lone title and chuck in all of the map packs as its a game from about 10 years ago.

At this point, it's like ole' Acti is trying to catch up with EA on not doing modern or futuristic warfare. I've said this before, but who really cares? WWII was done to death, and that's why they went "modern" for a reason. Yet, that has become old hat because Acti kept selling the same shit over and over again. I stopped caring for COD after MW2.

What I wanna know this time is, if people are dumb enough to buy into the "it's a new engine" or "innovative"? The only ones dumb enough to fall for it are people who don't play much games in general (more naivety on their part), super blind fan-boys, and kids between the ages of 7-14 who should have no business playing the game online in the first place.

Was that suppose to say slept with my mom last night? Because I assume that's what the ignorant child said. Also, the younger crowd really like to act like the previous CODS never happened, or if they are that clueless about the series the kids will act like they knew the whole time when told. And in some cases, act like it's some hidden secret they "discovered".

Battlefield and CoD are like two people who hate each other but everyone knows that they just need to fuck and get it over with.

That has always been the cycle. CoD does something, Battlefield follows. Battlefield does something, CoD follows.

Credit given to at least be doing a different war from each other this time. But it's the same thing. It's like watching cousins make out.

I'll have to remember which game was Call of Duty: Cops. Because BF: Hardline pretty much seemed to come out of nowhere.

Exception. COD didn't do a cop game because the Battlefiend one was shit. So they dodged that bullet because they aren't stupid.
