Everyone's heard of "Let's Play"s by now right? Y'know you basically do a run-through of a game and put it on a site (normally youtube) and see how people like it. There are no rules it's just you, the controller and the internet. Well I watched Cypheron48's (http://www.youtube.com/user/Cypheron48 just to give credit to the guy) Banjo Tooie Let's Play, and I got an idea. You see the thing was officially (if the epilogue is counted) 121 parts long. so I thought "Hey why not a contest to see who can make the longest Let's Play." Of course that kind of is like throwing water on a barely visible flame, after all Lets Play's don't need rules or regulations why have a contest, it seems cold and mean. But of course you wouldn't join if you didn't want to.
The rules of are simple:
1. Pick a game/series (yes you can Let's Play a whole series as well)
2. Make the series and put it on Youtube (if any better sites come along then this rule will change)
!!!!!3. Change the title from "Let's Play..." to "Let's Qualify With..."!!!!!
4. The game !CANNOT! be a spin off. It must either be a numbered sequel or have hard evidence that it is in fact a sequel.
5. No videos in which nothing is accomplished. For instance you cannot have a whole episode of you sitting there with your hands in your pockets. You have to do something. This also includes no running around in a circle, or something that prevents you from doing anything. You !MUST! accomplish something in the video. If you are utterly bad at the game then you have to progress nonetheless.
6. We must literally see everything. Excluding episodes in which nothing happens.
7. You must be talking or playing music during the Let's Play (this rule might be taken down because it's just for my benefit when I watch the Let's Play's)
8. I must be able to see the video some how, so that I can watch it.
9. Quality of the video will not be viewed just the amount you make.
10. No replaying the game over and over again to gain more videos or to recap the story.
Rule 5. Edit: If you play an RPG you cannot show have an entire episode about leveling up. You can either use an invincibility cheat or do the leveling-up off camera. The progression must be through the story or a side quest. You can do a 100% completion run. It is completely fair. If you do not obviously your Let's Play will be shorter but that's up to you. Remember the longer the better. You can't spend 6episodes doing the same quest in soemthing like DMC3. I know some of those quests are hard but they are also simple and do not require the extra episodes of you failing one thing over and over again.
11. (Just to murder loopholes) No playing online only. This means you cannot play TF-TF2 even though they are sequels. There I killed a loophole.
12. The only cheat that will be allowed in RPG's, such as KOTOR (Knights Of The Old republic), is the invincibility. No other cheats are allowed.
13. You can do different Let's Play's but they are all different. Say you start an MGS4 Let's Play, but you switch to a Banjo Kazooie Let's Play. They will be counted as separate Let's Play's.
14. No Indie Games or Rom-Hacks. The games have to be officially released titles.
Rule 11. Edit: You can play multiplayer/co-op in a game. That's right more than one person can play the single player campaign. For instance you can play the L4D co-op but not the Versus mode.
There are some more rules I have but I forgot them at the moment, so I will post them later when I remember them. This isn't important enough to be a rule but you are allowed to do whatever you would like to no end. Except for the things excluded by the rules. This means you can swear till the cows come home (pardon the expression), it can be as controversial as God and it can have as much gore as Evil dead 1-3 and Braindead combined! This also means you and a friend can play. Also as of late there is no deadline because i'm not sure if this will work.
!!!THIS IS ALL THEORETICAL!!!
I'm not sure people would buy this so I'm wondering what you think of this rough draft Escapist...ees... also point any big issues with the rules. I'm not good at balancing.
