So many years ago I read this book. It was awesome but I have no clue what it's called nor when it came out nor who was the author.

It had a sci-fi setting and the whole theme was that teenage kids were sent through this portal to another planet or something where they were suppose to survive in the wilderness and be the last man standing. Everyone got random items to have with them and the whole book happens over a few years so that the kids starting forming tribes and such.

Does anyone have a clue as what the name of this book might be?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

You are thinking of Robert A. Heinlein's Tunnel in the Sky.
A damn good book, have it on my shelf.
I need to read it again >.>
Edit: Not to be confused with Orphans of the Sky, by the same author.
Edit 2: At least, it sounds quite like Heinlein's book. Not the random item part, though, they got to choose.

NNNNNIIIIIIINNNNNNJJJJJJJJAAAAAAA

That is, if this is the book. I love Heinlein, and this is one of my favorite books of his.

Also, if you get the chance, check out Shade's Children by Garth Nix. The target audience is teen I guess, but it is such a damn good book, all about aliens harvesting humans and such.

Huh. I totally read that book, but I didn't piece it together until I read the title in your post. I liked it.

Let me ask you this, OP: Did the book involve giant evil monkey creatures?
